Blow Out 2016 Results

NAPA WCS BLOWOUT CHECKERS CLAIMED BY MUMAW, SCOTT, DAUGHERTY, DELLINGER & B. HENSEL; PERRINE & CLINE WIN NEW FEATURES ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Orrville, Ohio

Saturday, September 24, 2016

By Mike Swanger

The 4th annual Ohio Dirt Blowout presented by Kar Connection closed out the racing season at NAPA Wayne County Speedway for 2016 with some wild action in all class’.  The OVSCA rolled into Orrville’s Historic Oval for the third time this season and for the second time, Wooster’s Danny Mumaw captured the win.  Driving the Finishline Auto Body, Crown Investment and the ABR Farms #16, Mumaw would take the pole position starting spot and lead every lap of the 25 lap event. The early portion of the feature was marred by several cautions and a red flag.  Andre Layfield and Brad Haudenschild would tangle on the opening lap that sent both cars to the pits with Layfield unable to return while Haudenschild came back and finished seventh.  Dennis Wagner would stop the action on lap four as he bounced off the turn four wall and rolled for the red flag as he was in second at the time. Mumaw would bolt out to a big lead on the restarts as Jordan Ryan took over second until lap 11 when Chris Myers slipped past and Jason Dolick would hound Ryan for third. Jamie Myers, Shawn Hubler and 20th starting Clay Riney were charging hard for fifth. On lap 18, Hubler would try a power slide in turn three and got by Jamie Myers but made contact with Dolick, who spun. Hubler was charged with the caution and stopped his car on the frontstretch to protest and was disqualified when he got out of his car. At that point, the red flag came out for a fuel stop as the number of caution flag laps had run over the limit. The final six laps would go non stop as Mumaw, the Fisher Performance Sprint track champion for 2016, would pull away for his third win of the season as Chris Myers secured second place while Ryan held off Riney, Dolick and Jamie Myers for third as they finished in that order. Jamie Myers, Ryan and Layfield won the heat races. In the second heat race, Dennis Wagner and  Joe McEwen made contact going down the backstretch that would send McEwen flipping into the turn three catch fencing. He would walk away ok.

For the Harriger Towing Super Late Models, it was the final night of the Attica Raceway Park/ NAPA Wayne County Speedway Series and with second place Matt Irey not showing, Ashland’s Ryan Markham would lock up his second Series title just by starting the feature. Shinnston WV’s Robbie Scott made a rare appearance to NAPA WCS and started on the pole and at the drop of the green flag  took the lead as 4th starting Markham popped into second. Markham tried every line he could to overtake Scott but never could in the first half of the race. JR Gentry was working his way to the front and passed Larry Bellman on lap seven and closed in on the two leaders and would take second from Markham on lap 13. Two circuits later, Markham would slow and bring out the caution with a flat tire as he would return to finish 7th and the ARP/WCS crown in hand. The last ten laps would go nonstop as Scott and his Jenkins Ford, Brian Danials Racing and Slavic Designs #18 would pull away from Gentry for the win. 2016 Track Champion Brad Malcuit finished third as 13th starting Rick Bond, in his final race as he announced his retirement from racing, took fourth and also ended up second in the ARP/WCS Series. Larry Bellman was fifth. Heat winners were Markham, Gentry and Scott.

The Action Auto Body Super Stocks would be wrapping up their ‘Summer Series’ races with Tyler Thompson and Paul Holmes tied for the lead going into the last night and it was decided before the race started as Thompson was a no show for the night handing Holmes the crown. Todd Wentz would set the pace for the opening lap as Holmes would power into the lead on the next circuit as Wentz and Gary Hensel Jr. dueled for second as Bob Daugherty moved into fourth. On a restart following a caution on lap six, Daugherty slipped past Wentz and Hensel Jr. and reeled in Holmes. Using the extreme low groove, Daugherty and his Char’s Cars, McKenzie Concrete and Metz Machine Shop #21d was able to get alongside Holmes and squeeze into the lead on lap 12. A last lap caution would give Holmes one last chance at Daugherty but the Mansfield driver closed the door to post his third win of the season. Wentz and Hensel Jr. finished third and fourth as Brandon Craver filled out the top five. Wentz and Tim Coen topped the heat races.

Alan Dellinger of Hermitage Pa. would go flag to flag for his second win of the season in the Kar Connection Rush Late Model feature. Driving the Sarchione Chevrolet and BWR #8, Dellinger would be challenged early by Charlie Duncan but as the race wore on, Dellinger would slowly expand his lead lap after lap as Duncan would finish second. 2016 Track Champion Justin Chance also locked up the ‘Summer Series’ title with his third place run as Matt Aber and Greg Beach rounded out the top five. Heat wins were claimed by Dellinger and Aber.

It was a great season for Smithville’s Brad Hensel as he would lead all the way in the WQKT Sports Country 104.5 Mini Stock feature to grab his 7th win of the year, win the 2016 track championship and secure the ‘Summer Series’ crown. Jerry Adkins, Stephen Crowe and Gary Hensel Jr. battled back and forth for second through fourth before finishing in that order. Matt Miller finished out in fifth. Two red flags took place in the feature as Billy Parsons got bumped going down the back stretch and he would flip into the track exit lane on lap five and then on the restart of that red, a couple of cars got together at the flag stand that sent Colton Priebe barrel rolling down the front stretch. Both drivers walked away. Priebe and Parsons along with Brad Hensel won the heats

On Friday night, the NEW (Never Ever Won) races for drivers who had never won a feature before in any class or at any track were run and Wooster’s TA Perrine took the lead at the halfway mark from Tyler Nicely to win the Super Stock feature aboard the Diamond Stone Quarry, Huntley Trucking and Dave’s Hot Rod Shop #16. Barberton’s Matthew Cline grabbed the lead away from Mike Barr on lap three of the Mini Stock main and drove the BJP Racing and Ugly Duck Extreme Spor-B-Grille #21x to his first win ever.

During the red flag of the second heat of the sprints, as the track crew took time to fix the fence, the kids were allowed to go to the pits for Halloween in September trick or treat and then a costume contest took place with the top five getting cash prizes and several kids getting Jordan Ryan t shirts. There was also an apple bobbing contest during the evening.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2016 banquet that will be held on Saturday, November 12th at the Pines Golf Course. Go to the website at www.waynecountyspeedway.com for more information about the banquet.

SHELDON HAUDENSCHILD DOMINATES PETE JACOBS MEMORIAL AT NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE $10,000 TOP PRIZE; DUNCAN & NICELY GRAB CHECKER FLAGS

Orrville, Ohio

Sunday, September 4, 2016

By Tyler Altmeyer & Mike Swanger

For the second time in as many days, Sheldon Haudenschild pocketed $10,000 during Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions competition, this time in dominating fashion during a non-stop event at the NAPA Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio. Haudenschild, pilot of the Southern Pacific Farms, Finzer Farms, Haudenschild Racing #93, led all 35 circuits of the Pete Jacobs Memorial at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ on Sunday night, crossing the final checkers three seconds ahead of the competition. Now with eight victories on the season, as well as three consecutive since August 28, the Wooster native finds himself on top of the victory leaderboard during Arctic Cat All Star competition in 2016.

“Man, this crowd. Everything about this is just awesome,” Sheldon Haudenschild said in victory lane. “That’s what this is all about. To win in front of my hometown, is just awesome. Hats off to the entire track crew here tonight. They did a really good job preparing the race track. They worked in the top and bottom for us to race on, which really proved itself. I just can’t thank my guys enough for this. Everyone’s help is truly appreciated and I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Sheldon Haudenschild took the Pete Jacobs Memorial green flag from the inside of the second row, eventually driving by Dale Blaney at the exit of turn two, as well as Cap Henry at the exit of turn four, to officially lead lap one over the pair of Ohio natives. Haudenschild’s pace at the front of the field was untouchable, gaining a straightaway advantage by lap five using his familiar line at the top of the speedway. Traffic came into play for the first time shortly thereafter, but proved to be no distraction for Haudenschild, stretching his commanding lead to nearly five seconds by lap 18 of 35. Slower cars utilized the bottom lane of the speedway, allowing Haudenschild to work his line without losing momentum. By lap 25, traffic started to intensify with cars battling two and three wide for position in front of the leader. Despite the potential road block Haudenschild continued to navigate the outer rim of the speedway, still keeping a three to four second advantage over second place running Cole Duncan. In repeat fashion, Haudenschild kept his nose clean during the final ten circuits, driving on to score a 14th career Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions victory, his 13th since June of 2015.

“That’s just my mindset every time we hit the track, ya know,” Haudenschild explained. “You have to make every lap count. I really tried to minimize my mistakes, which was really hard to do on this racetrack. Both corners were different and sometimes got me caught up. I almost got balled up once or twice, but it was all worth it and a lot of fun.”

Cole Duncan finished behind Haudenschild after starting on the outside of row two, followed by current Arctic Cat All Star point leader Dale Blaney, Chad Kemenah and Cap Henry. Duncan raced inside the top five during the entire main event, battling in the third position permanently by lap 19, all before sneaking by Dale Blaney in traffic for the runner up spot on lap 24.

Paul Holmes would set the early pace from his outside front row starting position of the Action Auto Body Super Stock feature but on lap seven of the race, the power plant of Holmes’ #68 decided to go up in smoke and end his night. That would put Randolph’s Jim Nicely into the lead. Driving the Sarchione Ford, Tires and More and B-Nice Racing #72, Nicely would put some space between himself and Cliff Staley and Bob Daugherty. Staley would slip high in turn two on lap nine and allow Daugherty to move into second.  Daugherty would track down Nicely and on the final lap was on the back bumper of Nicely but could not make the pass coming out of turn four as Nicely claimed his first win of the season.  Staley held on to third in front of Brandon Craver and Jordan James.

Matt Aber was looking to sweep the Kar Connection Rush Late Model action as he won the heat was and led the first 11 laps of the feature. A caution on lap nine for a spun Bob Fry would double file the restart and Aber elected to start on the outside with Millersburg’s Charlie Duncan on the inside. The two would go side by side for the next two circuits before Duncan was able to slide up in front of Aber to take the lead for good and post his third win of the year aboard the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Auto Pro #240. Justin Chance would slip past Aber on the last lap for second as Fry finished fourth.

The next action coming up at NAPA Wayne County Speedway will be on Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th for the Blow out that will feature the OVSCA Sprints, the final race of the Attica Raceway Park/ NAPA Wayne County Speedway Super Late Model Series and the final ‘Summer Series’ races for the Kar Connection Rush Late Models, the Action Auto Body Super Stocks and the WQKT Sports Country 104.5 Mini Stocks on Saturday night. Watch for details of the NEW (Never Ever Won) races for the Super Stocks and Mini Stocks on Friday night. This will be races for drivers that have never won a feature in any class before. Check the website at www.waynecountyspeedway.com for more info on this race in the coming week.

RYAN, DROWN, WRIGHTSMAN, HENSEL JR., & PARSONS TOP NAPA WCS FEATURES; MUMAW, MALCUIT, CHANCE, THOMPSON, & B. HENSEL CLAIM CHAMPIONSHIPS
Orrville, Ohio
Saturday, August 27, 2016
By Mike Swanger

It was season championship night presented by Southeastern Equipment night at NAPA Wayne County Speedway Saturday night and like last week, rain stepped in to slow the program just after the 1st heat of the Fisher Performance Sprints took to the track. On the 1st lap of the race, Jamie Myers went off of turn two and flipped over the tires on the back stretch. He was ok and thanks to the hour plus rain delay was able to continue. The feature race came down to two races in one. The first part was for the win and then a three way battle for the track championship between Danny Mumaw, Mitch Harble and Nick Patterson. Castalia’s Jordan Ryan popped into the lead at the drop of the green flag as Nathan Skaggs pulled into second on lap 2. Cautions in the early laps slowed the pace as the action would really pick up on lap six as Skaggs started pestering Ryan for the lead as Sam Ashworth, Chris Myers and Shawn Valenti would battle for third. Skaggs would take the point on lap 18 but Ryan and his Harbach Electronics, Hochstetler Truck & Repair and McClure Motorsports #9 would come roaring back to reclaim the lead as Myers would take second with three circuits to go from Skaggs. Ryan held off a last lap charge by Myers to collect his 1st win. Skaggs finished third with Ashworth and Valenti rounded out the top five. The race for the championship had many turns and twists in it as Mumaw was the points leader but would start 13th in the feature as Harble started 7th and Patterson took the green flag from his 4th starting position. Mumaw would quickly move up as Patterson drifted back and they would be nose to tail with each other. Mumaw would almost spin and drop all the way back to 16th on lap nine, work his way back up and then spin out on lap 13 to go back to 15th as Harble was 4th and Patterson was 6th at the time. With three circuits to go, Harble was fourth but he lost two spots as Ashworth and Valenti squeezed by. Patterson was right behind Harble as Mumaw closed in the two drivers. Down the back stretch, Mumaw powered by both Harble and Patterson and as they took the white flag, Mumaw was in front of his points contenders and held on to sixth to clinch his 1st championship. Tyler Dunn, Ryan, and Chris Myers won the heat races as Roger Campbell claimed the last chance race.
Corey Conley took the outside front row starting spot and beat DJ Miller into turn one to take the lead as 7th starting Doug Drown would take second on lap three from Miller. Another driver on the move quickly was JR Gentry as in six laps he was in 4th from his 12th opening grid spot of Harriger Towing Super Late Model feature and would take third on the next lap. Points leader Brad Malcuit was in fifth as Ryan Markham was fourth and Malcuit would need stay within two place of Markham to win the title. Conley was keeping Drown at bay until he tapped the wall on lap 19 and would pull off with a flat tire on the next circuit as Drown would inherit the lead and drive away to his 7th win at NAPA WCS aboard the Hall’s Auto Sales, Nationwide Vehicle Protection and Wooster Glass #240. Gentry would end up second, his third runner up finish. Markham would finish third as Malcuit posted his fifth track championship with the 4th place finish as Rick Bond scored a fifth. Heat winners were Drown, Bond and Conley.
Streetsboro’s Tyler Thompson clinched the Action Auto Body Super Stock crown just by showing up but as a true racer, would take the lead on lap two as Bob Daugherty would take second on lap seven when Trae Schonauer would spin. Daugherty would challenge for the lead and with the white flag up in the air, Daugherty would make contact with Thompson and both would spin with Daugherty pitting for the night as Thompson would go to the pits but returned to the race in 11th. This would put Gary Hensel Jr. into the lead and the Apple Creek Driver would take the Lochevale Farms, DJ Directional Service and J & M Carpentry #28h to the Summit Racing victory circle for his second win of the season. Tyler Nicely finished second as Jordan James, Todd Sherwin and Schonauer filled out the top five. Thompson, Schonauer and Daugherty scored the heat wins.
Jamie Wrightsman of Cortland took the lead at the drop of the green flag and would lead all the way in the Kar Connection Rush Late Model main for his first ever win aboard the Hover Racing, Quaker Steak & Lube and Reese Pavement Sealing #21j. Charlie Duncan grabbed second on lap 4 but could not track down Wrightsman to finish second. Justin Chance clinched his 1st championship with his third place run. Matt Aber and Eric Wilson filled out the top five. Chance pocketed the heat race win.
Michael Rose, Chris Priebe and Wes Staley all had the lead at one time or another in the WQKT Mini Stock feature but after a lap ten caution, Killbuck’s Billy Parsons motored past Staley and drive the #4p to his first win. Brad Hensel would take second after the caution and that locked up his second track championshiop. Staley would finish third with Tyler Parsons and Matt Miller in tow. Hensel, Priebe and Miller dashed to the heat wins.
Brandon Gardner lead the way in the Flat Track cart feature
It was another night of drivers competing for the Contingency Connection Drivers Rewards program that has over $100,000 in yearly awards for the NAPA Wayne County Speedway drivers.
Next Sunday, the Arctic Cat All Star Sprints return for the fourth time this season for the Pete Jacobs Memorial that will pay the winner $10,000. The Action Auto Body Super Stocks and the Kar Connection Rush Late Models will be on the racing card also. Gates open at 3 pm with racing starting at 7 pm.
