DROWN STREAKS TO 4th NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY WIN IN A ROW; ABER & DAUGHERTY 1st TIME WINNERS; BRAD HENSEL A GRAND WINNER
Orrville, Ohio
Saturday, July 16, 2016
By Mike Swanger

On a beautiful night with the track surface of NAPA Wayne County Speedway again in smooth and fast condition, the WQKT Sports Country 104.5 Mini Stocks were the highlight class of the night with $1,000 waiting the winner of the 20 lap race and racing their 3rd ‘Summer Series’ points race. Michael Workman would set the pace for the opening two circuits from his pole position starting spot but would give way to Dale Beckett, the first ‘Summer Series’ winner, on lap three as Smithville’s Brad Hensel would move into second at the same time with Chris Priebe in tow. Hensel would swipe the lead away from Beckett on the fourth lap but Beckett regained the point on the next trip around and hold the top spot until lap 18 when his car began to sputter. That would allow Hensel and his JoyRide Transportation, DJ Directional Services and M&S Concrete #28 to take over with Priebe right behind. As they came out of turn four with the checkered flag up, Priebe made a move to the inside of Hensel but came up short. For Hensel, it was his second ‘Summer Series’ win, his fourth win of the season and expand his points lead. Mike Barr came from his 12th starting position to grab third as Beckett dropped to fourth with Zach Chaffin scoring a fifth. Stephen Crowe, Workman, and Chaffin notched the heat wins as Matt Miller was the last chance winner. Thanks to Drown Racing, Staley Racing and Hensel Racing for supporting this race.
Wooster’s Doug Drown would hold off early challenges from JR Gentry and Ryan Markham and then pull away aboard the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Wooster Glass #240 to tally his fourth win in a row in the Harriger Towing Super Late Model feature. Markham would run second with points leader Brad Malcuit taking third from Gentry on lap three and holding that position to the finish as Gentry finished fourth. Rick Bond would out duel Larry Bellman for fifth. Heat winners were Drown and Bond.
Last year’s Kar Connection Rush Late Model champion Charlie Duncan won the heat race and took control of the feature race from the outside pole position for the first five laps. On the restart of the lap 6 following a caution for Josh Stoica, Duncan would get sideways coming out of turn two in front of the field and would collect Bob Fry, Scott Delaney and Stoica, who took a big hit as he went off the backstretch and went nose first into the big tractor tires. All drivers were ok but the cars were not as all four had to be assisted from the track. Points leader Justin Chance would inherit the lead with Wooster’s Matt Aber in his tire tracks as both were dusting off the guardrail in turn one and two. As the two went down the back stretch on lap 14, Aber would put a crowd standing slide job on Chance in turns three and four and steal the lead away and put the #31 in victory circle. Chance had the right rear tire lose pressure as Mitch Basich would take second in his season debut. Chance limped to finish third as Allan Dellinger would finished fourth while Stoica was scored fifth.
The Action Auto Body Super Stocks were also running a ‘Summer Series’ race and before the race started, scheduled pole sitter Gary Hensel Jr. had to pull off with mechanical issues giving the pole position to Mansfield’s Bob Daugherty. Driving the Char’s Cars, McKenzie Concrete and Met’s Machine Shop ‪#‎21d‬ would go flag to flag for his first win of the season at NAPA WCS. Two time feature winner Paul Holmes pulled into second on lap two from his 7th starting spot. It took points leader and five time winner Tyler Thompson five circuits to take third from his gris starting spot of 8th as both could not catch up to Daugherty. Tyler Nicely and Brandon Craver were putting on a show for fourth in the last half of the race with Nicely edging out Craver for fourth and Craver getting fifth. Nicely and Daugherty paced the heat races.
Brandon Gardner led all the way to win the Flat Track Cart feature over heat winner Daryl Conkle and Mark Rutherford and Ethan Rutherford.
Contingency Connection’s Racer Awards were collected by drivers on Saturday night while year long awards with a total of over $100, 000 are competed for weekly at NAPA WCS.
The second annual Buckeye Dirt Week for the Super Late Models will head into NAPA Wayne County Speedway next Saturday night, July 23 for the Don Gross Memorial paying $4,000 to the winner. Duane Chamberlain was the winner of last years race. The OVSCA Sprints and the Action Auto Body Super Stocks are on the evening racing card also.

DROWN DASHES TO NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY WIN; HARBLE, WILSON, THOMPSON & B. HENSEL PARK IN VICTORY LANE
Orrville, Ohio
Saturday, July 9, 2016
By Mike Swanger
It was another night of action packed racing on the tacky fast racing surface of NAPA Wayne County Speedway with the Harriger Towing Super Late Models in the spotlight with race #4 of the Attica Raceway Park/Wayne County Speedway series on Malcuit Tavern night. For the first 19 laps of the feature, pole sitter Brad Malcuit would set the pace with Wooster’s Doug Drown quickly taking second on the opening lap from his 6th starting position. As the two heat winners were pulling away from the rest of the field, Ryan Markham was working his way through the field from his ninth starting spot and took third from Rick Bond on lap nine. A caution on lap 11 would bunch the field together and Malcuit would lead the way again as Drown stayed in his tire tracks until lap 19 when Malcuit would slip coming out of turn four and Drown pounced on the opening and drove by to take the lead. A yellow flag with two laps to go would give Malcuit a chance as he went low in turn one but Drown and his Hall’s Auto Sales, Wooster Glass and Kar Connection #240 was on the highside and would drive away for his third win of the season. Malcuit would finish with a season best second and take the tracks point lead. Markham’s third place finish would move him into the points lead of the ARP/WCS series with two races to go. Those will be contested in September. Bond would hold off Kirk Baker for fourth.
Wrecking his car on Friday night, Newark’s Mitch Harble would set in the drivers seat of the Kempthorn Auto, Fire & Ice Pub and All Things Retro #38k and go wire to wire for his first win of the season and his second career win in the Fisher Performance Sprint feature. Although Harble lead all the way, a lot of action was going on behind him as 1st heat winner, Shawn Hubler, Jimmy Colvin, Nick Patterson and Danny Mumaw would spend time in second place. Colvin would take second from Hubler on lap three but a flat tire 7 circuits later put a hiccup in Colvin’s run as Patterson inherited second. Mumaw, who started ninth and was to 4th on lap three, would power slide Patterson on lap 13 for second. With a caution with two to go. Mumaw had one last chance but Harble pulled away from Mumaw but on the last lap going down the backstretch, Harble would rub tires with the lapped car of Jeremy Duposki with Harble hanging on to get the win as Duposki ended up sideways, blocking the track exit as the race finished. Patterson would take third behind Mumaw as 2nd heat winner Chris Myers collected 4th as Colvin recovered to take fifth.
Bob Daugherty grabbed the lead from the outside pole in the Action Auto Body Super Stock main with points leader Tyler Thompson and Paul Holmes right on his rear bumper. With numerous caution flags in the race that kept the field packed together, the top three positions would stay the same until a lap 12 restart, when Thompson made a move to the outside of Daugherty, who was glued to the low groove all race long. The Streetsboro driver got the run coming out of turn two to take the lead and then park the Action Auto Body, Nella Enterprises and Ofex of Ohio #T2 for the fifth time this season. On the same lap Holmes got sideways and last several positions and that allowed Tyler Nicely to take third behind Daugherty as Jordan James and Cliff Staley filled out the top five. Daugherty and Thompson claimed the heat wins.
Following the races only caution flag on lap 12, Cortland’s Eric Wilson took the lead from Justin Chance on the restart of the Kar Connection Rush Late Model feature to post his second win of the season. Chance, who led from the drop of the green flag, would take the outside line on the double file restart and slid high in turn two and that allowed heat winner Wilson and his Mark Thomas Ford, Hovis Tire & Automotive and Pennzoil #27w to go low and take the lead for good. Dave Airgood would finish third behind Chance as Alan Dellinger and Matt Aber rounded out the top five.
Smithville’s Brad Hensel would take the lead from Michael Workman on lap three of the WQKT Mini Stock main and then hold off Doug Hensel late in the race and win his third feature of the season aboard the JoyRide Transportation, M&S Concrete, and DJ Directional Services #28. Eighth starting Chris Priebe finished third with Stephen Crowe claiming fourth as Wes Staley picked his way through the field to take fifth after starting 11th. Heat winners were Crowe, Workman and Doug Hensel.
Jamie Johnson pocketed the Flat Track Cart win over Austin Johnson, Justin Chance, Daryl Conkle and Coty Conway.
Contingency Connection Racer Rewards worth over $100,000 for the season were available to all drivers once again at NAPA Wayne County Speedway.
Next Saturday night, July 16 will have the WQKT Mini Stocks chasing after a $1,000 to win feature in one of their ‘Summer Series’ races while the Action Auto Body Super Stocks will also run a ‘Summer Series’ race that will pay the winner $500. The Harriger Towing Super Late Models, the Kar Connection Rush Late Models and the Flat Track Carts are also on the racing card.

HAUDENSCHILD HUSTLES TO OHIO SPRINT CAR SERIES WIN AT NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
Orrville, Ohio
Saturday, July 2, 2016
By Mike Swanger
Making their first visit ever to NAPA Wayne County Speedway on McDonalds night, the Ohio Sprint Car Series 25 lap feature was claimed by Wooster’s Jac Haudenschild as the Sprint Car Hall of Fame driver would slice and dice his way through the field from his 7th starting position and take the lead for good on lap 14 and pull away for the win, his second of the year at Orrville’s Historic track. Ryan Broughton would grab the lead from the pole position to set the early pace as fellow front row starter Jason Dolick would follow with Nick Patterson, Dean Jacobs and Haudenschild in tow after five laps. Driving the Miller owned #6, Haudenschild would leap frog over Patterson and Jacobs on the next circuit and two laps later took second from Dolick and set sail for Broughton, who had built up a sizable lead. The ‘Wild Child’ used his experience of the racing surface and caught up to Broughton and raced by on lap 14. The field would be bunched together after a lap 21 caution for Dolick and Ryan Myers and as the green flag returned, Broughton would bounce off the turn two guardrail and Jacobs and OSCS points leader Cole Duncan slipped past to trail Haudenschild at the finish line with Nick Patterson taking fifth. Broughton, Dolick and Patterson posted the heat wins.
Dave Hornikel would lead the way for the opening 6 laps of the Harriger Towing Super Late Model feature but he had no breathing room as Ryan Markham, Doug Drown and Tyler Carpenter was on his bumper. Drown grabbed second from Markham on lap two and kept the pressure on Hornikel and when he bobbled in turn two, Drown and his Hall’s Auto Sales, Wooster Glass and Kar Connection #240 roared by and never looked back as the Wooster driver collected his second win of the season. Markham would take second from Hornikel on lap 11 with Carpenter moving to third with ten to go. Rick Bond would take fourth from Hornikel with four to go to claim fourth. Heat winners were Drown and Hornikel. JR Gentry barrel rolled twice in the first heat to stop the action, as he walked away with no injuries.
Canton’s Paul Holmes went flag to flag for his second win in the Action Auto Body Super Stock main aboard the #68. Bob Daugherty took second from Nick Smith on lap four and pulled alongside Holmes on lap seven but got loose in turn four and that allowed points leader Tyler Thompson to take second. Thompson would stay glued to Holmes’ rear bumper but could never get around the winner. Daugherty would finish third followed by Smith and Gary Hensel Jr. Daugherty, Holmes and Brandon Gardner captured the heat wins as Paul Kern scored the last chance victory.
Matt Aber would out race Justin Chance into turn one of the Kar Connection Rush Late Model feature and lead the way for the first 7 laps when the caution flag flew. On the double file restart, Aber took the outside position with Ashland’s Ryan Markham, who had taken second from Chance on lap 4, on the inside. Markham would use the low groove to take the lead. Charlie Duncan moved into second on lap 12, just before the red flag came out for Chuck Kimble, who was upside down in turn three as he would walk away okay. On this restart, Markham used the inside lane and kept Duncan at bay to park the Harriger Towing, H & T Demolition and Accu Shocks #5m in victory lane for the second time this year and expand his points lead. Dave Airgood won the heat.
The front row of the WQKT Mini Stock feature had  Stephen Crowe and Wes Staley there and Crowe would lead the way for the opening three laps when Staley took over for the next four circuits as Millersburg’s Dale Beckett and Chris Priebe right behind the whole time. Beckett and his Kaufman Country Market and M & S Concrete #4 would take the point on lap eight. Mitch Reichard found a groove he liked and moved past Priebe with three to go. As Beckett came out of turn four for the checkered flag, his car spit and sputtered and as he crossed the finish line, went up in smoke but beat Reichard by a quarter of a car length for his second win of the season. Priebe was third as Moose Workman and Crowe filled out the top five. Beckett, Dustin Ragan and Doug Hensel paced the heat races.
First heat winner Daryl Conkle and Brandon Gardner led laps in the Flat Track Cart feature but it was second heat winner Chuck Conway leading the last eight laps for the win. Conkle would finish second with Coty Conway, Gardner and Chase Camillo filling out the top five.
All drivers were once again pursuing Contingency Connection Racer Rewards that are worth over $100,000 for the season at NAPA Wayne County Speedway.
The Harriger Towing Super Late Models take center stage next Saturday with round two of the Attica Raceway Park/ NAPA Wayne County Speedway Super Late Model Challenge. RICO ABREU WINS WCS SPEEDWEEK

RICO ABREU DOMINATES NAPA WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY OHIO SPRINT SPEEDWEEK SHOW; THOMPSON HANGS ON TO 4th SUPER STOCK WIN
Orrville, Ohio
Monday, June 20, 2016
By Tyler Altmeyer & Mike Swanger
After missing the main event on Sunday at Millstream Speedway, St Helena, California’s Rico Abreu made an impressive rebound and nearly swept round four of Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket at Orrville’s NAPA Wayne County Speedway to win the Duffy Smith Memorial on Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic night. Abreu earned victories during his respective heat race and dash after being the 7th fastest qualifier, all before leading all 30 circuits of the feature program. The $5,000 Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Cometic Gasket victory was the 4th Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions win of his career, going back to back at NAPA Wayne County Speedway in 2016.
“I just love being a part of this team. It’s all about preparation and these guys certainly make that happen,” explained Rico Abreu. “I love to watch my guys work. Even after a tough night like last night, they stayed focused and knew what they had to do to turn things around. Really glad to be up here again. Wayne County Speedway rreminds me so much of racing back home.”
Rico Abreu took command of the feature field immediately after the initial green flag, winning the drag race into turns one and two with Andrew Palker and Jac Haudenschild in tow. the 30 lap main event was halted five times, two of which for red flag conditions during the first five circuits. Despite the frequent cautions, and a needed fuel stop on lap 22, Abreu kept the pace on the point, never feeling pressure from those racing behind him. Kyle Larson, who started third on the feature grid, maintained a top five running position the entire distance, eventually finishing second at the checkers. Fast qualifier Sheldon Haudenschild finished third followed by fifth row starter Danny Holtgraver and California native Carson Macedo.
“I’m just so comfortable here, “ said Rico Abreu. “ The turns were completely different here tonight. It really reminds me of Tulare back home in California. My style fits this place. I’m just really happy for my team. I think we are all excited to get back to this place.”
In the companion Action Auto Body Super Stock main, Streetsboro’s Tyler Thompson held off Bob Daugherty to post his 4th win of the season and pocket the $1,000 winners share of the 25 lap feature. Driving the Nella Enterprises, R-T Fence Company and Action Auto Body #T2, held off an early challenge from fellow front row starter Gary Hensel Jr. as 15th and 16th starting Daugherty and Paul Holmes picked their way up through the field as Daugherty would take second on lap 11 with Holmes taking third from Hensel Jr. a lap later. Thompson would slide up the track on lap 13 that opened the door for Daugherty to take the point on lap 14 but the second generation driver came back to reclaim the lead on the next circuit. Daugherty would keep the pressure on as Holmes was right behind the leaders. With the checkered flag waited, Thompson and Daugherty were side by side coming out of turn four and Thompson would edge out Daugherty at the line for the narrow win. Tyler Nicely finished fourth behind Holmes as Chase Alexander recovered from an early caution to take fifth. Alexander, Tim Coen and Brandon Craver led the way in the heat races as Holmes topped the last chance race.
Thanks to Jerry McClure racing and all the fans for raising over $1,800 for Brad Haudenschild as he continues to recover from his illness
The next racing action at NAPA WCS will be Saturday, July 2 with the Ohio Sprint Car Series rolling in for a $2,500 to win feature along with the Harriger Towing Super Late Models, Kar Connection Rush Late Models, Action Auto Body Super Stocks and the WQKT Mini Stocks.
