Aaron Reutzel beats Shaffer and Abreu for Ohio Sprint Speedweek victory at Wayne County Speedway Orrville, Ohio   June 19, 2019

With Mother Nature throwing a curveball in All Star plans to visit Chillicothe’s Atomic Speedway on Wednesday evening, the Series made an early morning venue swap and switched their focus to Wayne County Speedway in Orrville.

The Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing destination change proved to be all the better for Clute, Texas’ Aaron Reutzel, ultimately ending his evening at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ by winning the 6th annual Duffy Smith Memorial and becoming $5,000 richer, as well as officially back on top of the Ollie;s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 driver championship standings

Reutzel, the defending All Star champion in addition to being the current Series point leader, led all 30 circuits at Wayne County Speedway on Wednesday evening, forced to outduel the ‘Steel City Outlaw’ Tim Shaffer and St Helena’s Rico Abreu in the process. Joining Kyle Larson and Dale Blaney, Reutzel now owns one Speedweek victory in 2019, adding to his overall All Star wins list that now includes 12 total, 3 of which occurring in 2019.

Although forced to withstand three cautions during the first seven circuits, one of which was a red flag incident jusy after the initial start, Reutzel remained the class of the field, keeping Tim Shaffer and Rico Abreu in his rearview mirror during the first ten laps. Strong in clean air, it was not until when slower traffic entered the picture for the first time that Shaffer and Abreu were able to chop away at Reutzel’s advantage.

By lap 13, Shaffer was hot on Reutzel’s heels, Knocking down the leader’s advantage to a mere car length. Despite Reutzel’s ability to navigate slower traffic, Shaffer kept the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports entry in check, pressuring the familiar #87 for the lead on multiple occasions between laps 15 and 18 while nearly driving under Reutzel at the exit of turn four on lap 17.

Feeling the pressure from Shaffer, Reutzel immediately increased his pace, picking off slower cars one by one while simultaneously growing his command over Shaffer and Abreu. By the time Reutzel received the five to go signal from the flagstand, the race was already over, eventually crossing under the checkers with a near straightaway advantage. Brock Zearfoss finished fourth as local driver Dean Jacobs was fifth.

The All Stars will be back Saturday night, June 22nd, at Wayne County Speedway for the Speedweek finale that will pay the winner $10,000. The McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks will also be racing.

OHIO SPRINT SPEEDWEEK FINALE WORTH $10,000 AT WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY; JOHN WILSON & WES STALEY CAPTURE CHECKERS Orrville, Ohio Saturday, June 22, 2019 By Tyler Altmyer & Mike Swanger    Penngrove, California’s Buddy Kofoid officially etched his name in Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 history books on Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway, not only earning his first ever Series victory, but doing so during the final night of the 37th running of the Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing. To top things off, the Speedweek finale victory scored Kofoid a $10,000 payday. The feat was impressive, but it was accomplished in dramatic fashion, as the 17 year old was forced to outduel Kokomo, Indiana’s Parker Price-Miller, as well as six time All Star champion, Dale Blaney, during the closing circuits of the 35 lap main event. In fact, Kofoid was third when the field received the five to go signal from the flagstand, eventually getting by Blaney with two laps to go, followed by a slick move to drive under Price-Miller on the final circuit.   Price-Miller, who led the first 34 laps from the pole position, held on to finish second, followed by Blaney, Wooster’s Broc Martin and St Helena, California’s Rico Abreu.   “I really don’t know what to say. This was one of my goals when I moved out here,” said Buddy Kofoid, driver of the Ed Neumeister Racing/ Gill Construction/CK Plumbing/Linder’s Speed Equipment/#11n sprint car. “Getting that first All Star win is just unbelievable. Now I want to get an Outlaw win. I really can’t thank this team enough. Mike (Linder) and the guys gave me a great car. I’m Having a lot of fun doing this.”   Although never in command until the final circuit, it was obvious that Kofoid was going to be a factor. In fact, Kofoid took command for the first time, unofficially, on lap nine with a slider over Price-Miller through turns one and two. Unfortunately, a caution, the mains event’s only caution, halted action just as Kofoid took command, ultimately negating his move. Racing one-two after the ensuing restart, Price-Miller and Kofoiddid not encounter traffic for the first time until lap 17, causing the front runners to bunch that included a fast paced Dale Blaney, who battled his way to third from fifth by the completion of lap 23. From that point on, it was a shootout.   By lap 26, the lead trio were trapped behind a wall of slower cars. Using traffic as a pick, Blaney pounced on Kofoid for second on lap 27, actually driving below the familiar #11n with a move between turns three and four. Despite losing a position, Kofoid kept pace with Blaney and Price-Miller, eventually returning the favor and advancing back into second on lap 33. Keeping Price-Miller within striking range, Kofoid drove to the tailtank of the Indy Race Parts #71p as the duo were entering turn one and two on the final circuit. In an attempt to protect the bottom, Price-Miller dived into one, but slid too high, actually opening the door for Kofoid who was able to sneak by down the backstretch.   Kofoid won the battle on Saturday night, but it was Dale Blaney who won the war, using his podium run to clinch a sixth career Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Indy Metal Finishing championship, now with just as many Speedweek titles as he does All Star championships. The Speedweek title, his first since 2014, earned the Hartford, Ohio native a $4,000 payday.   Also in action Saturday night at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ were the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks as they were chasing after O’Reilly Auto Parts ‘Race to the Championship’ points while the JOYRIDE Transportation Mini Stocks ran a non points race.   Coshocton’s John Wilson would start on the pole and spend all 15 laps holding off different charges from different drivers as early on it was David Uhler working on the Lity Scrap Yard and B&T Valley #7 of Wilson during the first 9 laps as Uhler was able to get along side but never take the lead, Don Baney was right on the back bumpers of both the front runners and on lap 10 take second from Uhler and hound Wilson as now Uhler was holding off four time winner Doug Drown for third. With the checkered flag up, Baney tried to get under Wilson coming out of turn four, But Wilson out gassed him to the line to pick up his first McKenzie Concrete Super Stock win of the season. Baney was third followed by Uhler and Drown as James Alleman scored a career best fifth place finish. Leading the way in the heat races were Brandon Craver and Uhler.   Being a late addition to the racing card, the JOYRIDE Transportation Mini Stocks ran a non points race but as usual, put on another great race. Cory Cecil and Tyler Wiles would bring the field to the green flag but it was third starting Wyatt Zimmerman at the head of the pack at the end of lap one with Canton’s Wes Staley in pursuit. Following a lap four caution, on the double file restart, Zimmerman’s car sputtered and that would allow Doug and Brad Hensel to both get by him along with Cory Staley. Wes Staley and his BJP Performance & Racing, Thirsty Cowboy and Paul Davis Construction #73s would hold a five car advantage to the checkered flag for his second win of the season, while the battle for second was back and forth between Doug Hensel, Brad Hensel and Cory Staley as the crossed the finish line in that order with Cecil filling out the top five. Doug Hensel and Wes Staley tallied the heat wins.   Drivers were also chasing after the ‘Racers Rewards’ from the Contingency Connection.   Next Saturday night at Wayne County Speedway it will be a Fast Four racing program featuring the Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprintsm the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models, the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks and the JOYRIDE Transportation Mini Stocks. It will also be night two for the Kid’s Bike, Big Wheel and Power/Battery Car Races
