CRABTREE, KING, LONEY, MOORE, HENSEL & McLOUGHLIN CAPTURE WILD OPENING NIGHT WINS AT NAPA WCS
Friday, April 26, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

After rain and cold shot down NAPA Wayne County Speedway's WoO Late Models and Renegade's of Dirt opener two weeks ago, everyone was chomping at the bit to see some racing action on the 3/8 mile oval. Since the transponders and scoring system went into place, no laps have been turned as fast as they were in qualifying for the Lias Tire Late Models as Russ King turned two laps in the 16 second bracket with the fastest at 16.737 on the well groomed racing surface.
The opening feature on VP Racing Fuels night would be the Fisher Performance Sprints with West Jefferson's Kory Crabtree setting on the pole and out hustling Wes McGlumphy into turn one for the lead that would last one lap as fourth starting Lee Jacobs would blast into the lead as last years track champion, Andrew Palker and Danny Mumaw and Beau Stewart had worked their way into the top five at the ten lap mark. With Jacobs expanding his lead a tight battle was shaping up with Crabtree, Palker and Mumaw as Danny Smith now in fifth at the halfway mark. Just as Jacobs started lap 17, a big cloud of smoke erupted out of his #81 as he kept up the pace but as the pack went into turn four, Palker jumped the cushion and hit the wall and flopped onto his side to bring out the red flag ending his night and Jacobs had lost all oil pressure and went pitside also. On the restart, Crabtree and his Crabtree Body Shop, Millhone Motorsports, and Mike's Trucking #60, dashed out to the lead as Danny Smith powered past Mumaw and Stewart for second but could not track down Crabtree. Fast Qualifier Chris Myers moved past Stewart with five laps to go to claim fourth.
Brad Malcuit and Charlie Duncan brought the Lias Tire Late Model field to the green flag and Charlie Duncan charged into the lead as Malcuit ran second and a dogfight between JR Gentry, last season's track champ, Shane McLoughlin, Rick Bond, Cory Conley and King was brewing for third. Gentry went highside of in turn three and spun in the cushion to bring out the caution on lap seven. As Bond, King, Malcuit and Conley wheeled and dealed with each other, Duncan opened up another big lead. Bond and King ran tightly together with some contact at the halfway mark with King taking over with a lot of track to make up on Duncan. With four to go, the lapped car of Jerry Aber and King touched with Aber spinning to slow the action. On the restart King was all over Charlie Duncan but could not slip past and on the last lap going into turn three, King and his King Brothers Ready Mix Concrete, All Star Performance and Michael Schimmley Kontracting #56 powerslid into Duncan with contact and rolled out of turn four with the lead and win. Duncan held on to second as Conley, McLoughlin, and Bond rounded out the top five.
The Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature took the green flag with Kyle Moore and Jeremy LynchStaying side by side for the opening lap but Moore got sideways in turn two on the second circuit and dropped back to sixth place as Lynch cruised to a big lead with Bob Daugherty and Frank Oriti charging for second. Moore who was fast timer had gather himself back together to get back by Brandon Craver and Oriti and took on Daugherty for second . As the laps wound down, Lynch started to fade as Daugherty closed in with Moore in pursuit of the two front runners. Daugherty took over the point with three laps to go with Mansfield's Moore with his Moore's Auto Sales, Hall's Auto Sales #2* using the highside to pass. As the two came out of turn four for the checkered flag, sparks came shooting out of Daugherty's rear housing and Moore nipped him at the line for the win. Lynch held on to third with Craver, last years track champion in fourth as Oriti claimed fifth.
Bruce Miller led the opening three laps of the NAPA Auto Parts Modified race with Chris Basich in second until he rammed a retaining tire in turn one on the second lap to send himself to the tail of the field, Danville's Nathan Loney would squeeze by Miller on lap four and never look back aboard the Rich's Body Shop and The Hangout Bar & Grill #10 for the win, Basich would work his way back through the field and take second from Miller with five to go and Eric Singhaus moved past Miller on the last lap for third with Miller finishing fourth ahead of Jim Nicely.
Team cars of Jordan James and Gary Hensel Jr. went door handle to door handle for the first lap when Hensel Jr. broke a ball joint in turn two to end his night. James would cruise away for the apparent win but was DQ'ed in post race inspection giving the win to Wooster's Brad Hensel's Bargain Shed and DJ Directional Services #28. Mike Rose, Mitch Reichard, Lester Berry and Adam Kern trailed Hensel.
Zanesville's Tanner McLoughlin and his 2 Brothers Motorsports #59 won the Mini Wedge main over Logan Duncan.
Another regular show is set for next Friday, May 3rd at NAPA WCS with first race set to go green at 7:45 pm.

Buckeye 50 featuring WoO Cancelled for April 13th

Saturated Grounds Force Postponement Of Saturday's WoO Late Model Series Buckeye 50 At NAPA Wayne County Speedway

With Heavy Mid-Week Rain Dooming Saturday's Show, National Tour's Visit To Ohio Track Reset For Fri., May 24

By Kevin Kovac, WoO LMS P.R. Director

ORRVILLE, OH – April 11, 2013 – Heavy mid-week rain has saturated the grounds of NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway, forcing the postponement of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series 'Buckeye 50' scheduled for Saturday night (April 13).

Track and series officials made the announcement on Thursday morning, two days after jointly deciding to condense this weekend's scheduled multi-day Buckeye 100 into a single evening of competition on Saturday due to forecasts of unfavorable weather conditions.

The Buckeye 50 has been rescheduled for Fri., May 24, preserving the only scheduled WoO LMS event in the state of Ohio in 2013.

WCS's hopes of running a $10,000-to-win WoO LMS event on Saturday night were effectively doomed after severe storms rolled over the three-eighths-mile track on Wednesday, dumping two inches of rain on grounds that still hadn't completely dried out following a long winter and wet early spring. With more thunderstorms on Thursday expected to add an inch or more of rain and cool, damp weather forecast for Friday, WCS co-promoters Jason and Kristin Flory determined that the facility simply wouldn't be ready to host a racing program on Saturday night.

"We were hoping to salvage a single night of World of Outlaws Late Model Series racing this weekend," said Jason Flory, who is starting his second full season of promoting the venerable track with his wife. "But we knew that if we had at least an inch of rain this week we'd be in trouble – and we got more than an inch on Wednesday and have even more coming today.

"We think the track and pit area would probably be O.K. on Saturday, but the rest of the grounds are just too wet and soft from all the rain. There's just no way the parking areas will dry sufficiently by Saturday to allow us to get all the fans and race teams in-and-out in a reasonable manner, so we decided that we had no choice but to postpone Saturday's Buckeye 50."

Flory was able to arrange a new date for the Buckeye 50, however, inking a WoO LMS program for Fri., May 24. The 50-lap, $10,000-to-win show will combine with the wingless Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series event previously scheduled for that date at WCS to create a blockbuster holiday-weekend doubleheader.

The May 24 event will mark the second straight season that the WoO LMS kicks off the Memorial Day weekend at WCS. The tour will move on to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va., on May 25-26 for the Bullring Bonanza doubleheader.

Track and series officials also said that plans are in the works to run a Buckeye 100 weekend in 2014. Dates for the inaugural event will be released later this year.

Fans who bought two-day passes for the Buckeye 100 weekend in advance will be refunded the difference between their purchase price and the cost of a General Admission ticket on May 24. The next action for the WoO LMS will be a doubleheader weekend in North Carolina, on April 19 at Fayetteville Motor Speedway and April 20 at 311 Motor Speedway in Pine Hall.

Buckeye 100 Weekend Condensed To 50-lap, $10,000-To-Win Program On Saturday (April 13) At NAPA AUTO PARTS WCS

Buckeye 100 Weekend Condensed To 50-lap, $10,000-To-Win Program On Saturday (April 13) At NAPA Wayne County Speedway

Unfavorable Weather Outlook Prompts Changes To Ohio’s Only World of Outlaws Late Model Series Event In 2013

ORRVILLE, OH – April 9, 2013 – The World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Buckeye 100’ scheduled for this weekend at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway has been condensed to a one-day program on Saturday evening (April 13) topped by a 50-lap A-Main paying $10,000 to win, track and series officials announced on Tuesday afternoon.

With unfavorable weather conditions forecast for the start of the inaugural Buckeye 100 weekend, WCS co-promoters Jason and Kristin Flory collaborated with WoO LMS director Tim Christman on a contingency plan for the event. Both parties agreed to scrap the originally scheduled multi-day, 100-lap program and run a single-day card on Saturday night.

“All of us at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway have been excited for months about the first Buckeye 100 weekend, but we don’t want to run such a huge event in conditions that would be miserable for fans and race teams,” said Jason Flory, who is starting his second full season of promoting the three-eighths-mile oval with his wife. “With forecasts calling for rain on Thursday (practice night) and then unseasonably cold temperatures and a chance of rain and/or snow on Friday, we felt that we didn’t want to have everyone travel to the speedway and face the possibility of sitting for a couple days without racing or competing in weather that would make the weekend unenjoyable.

“We decided that the best option is to condense the weekend into a single night of racing on Saturday. We understand that Saturday’s forecast still calls for cool temperatures, but it appears likely we’ll stay dry so running the ‘Buckeye 50’ that day should allow us to host the only World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in Ohio this season.”

Flory added that track and WoO LMS officials will work together on Saturday to expedite the racing program, which will see the WoO LMS A-Main run first. Also in action will be the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds Series ($2,000 to win) and the track’s Thrifty Discount Muffler Super Stocks ($500 to win).

Pit gates are scheduled to open at 1 p.m. on Sat., April 13, and spectator gates will be unlocked at 2 p.m. Hot laps are set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with WoO LMS Ohlins Shocks Time Trials and racing to follow.

General Admission to Saturday’s show will be $30, with children ages 6-12 admitted for $15 and kids 5-and-under free of charge. Pit passes will be $45.

Fans who bought two-day passes for the Buckeye 100 weekend in advance will be refunded the difference between their purchase price and the cost of Saturday’s General Admission tickets.

Race officials announce tire rule for Buckeye 100 and inclement weather policy/procedure

Written by Ryan Pearson.

Orrville, Ohio (April 4, 2013) NAPA Auto Parts Promoter Jason Flory and World of Outlaw Late Model Series Director Tim Christman recently met and are set to announce tire rule for the upcoming highly anticipated Buckeye 100 featuring the World of Outlaw Late Models.

“With the economy in mind Tim and I decided to implement a tire rule for the Buckeye 100. We feel this will benefit everyone not just the local racer” stated Flory. “We are really excited and have been working hard in preparation for the season. This is one additional thing we felt was needed to be done to help everyone” Flory continued.

For the Buckeye 100 the only tires permitted must durometer forty (40) points or harder. This rule is in effect for all four tires, both front and rears. The aforementioned policy is in line with NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway weekly tire rule.

In case of inclement weather and the Friday night portion is cancelled the race will then be ran as a one day show featuring the World of Outlaw Late Models with racers going for twelve thousand dollars ($12,000.00) to win. In case this policy is needed the general admission gate price will be thirty dollars ($30.00) and pit gate admission being forty five dollars ($45.00). Children admission prices remain the same with ages six through twelve general admission being fifteen ($15). For the presale two day package the difference will be refunded to those ticket holders. If both days are cancelled then a full refund will be issued to the presale ticketholders.

“We don’t want to think of this as an option but we do need to be prepared incase Mother Nature does not cooperate with the running of the Buckeye 100” said Flory. “This is the typical policy of the World of Outlaw Late Models and we feel this does offer a viable option incase its needed” Flory continued.

Fans can assure themselves prime seating in Wayne County's grandstand for the Buckeye 100. The advance tickets – priced at $50 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-12 – can be purchased using a credit card (with a 3% service charge) by calling the track office at 330-465-2365 or e-mailing Kristin Flory at This email address is being protected from spambots. The grand finale on Sat., April 13, will include WoO LMS B-Mains and the Buckeye 100; Renegades of Dirt Modifieds consolations and a 40-lap feature paying $4,000 to win; and another complete WCS Super Stock card.

The weekend will also include an open practice night on Thurs., April 11, an autograph session with WoO LMS drivers prior to Saturday night's action and other attractions.

Advance Reserved Seat Tickets To Historic Event Set To Go On Sale January 28

ORRVILLE, OH – Jan. 18, 2013 – The 2013 racing campaign will begin in unprecedented fashion at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway.

A blockbuster weekend headlined by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Buckeye 100’ is set for April 12-13 at Wayne County, providing fans and racers from Ohio and neighboring states a new early-season tradition in the Midwest.

A $20,000 first-place prize from a total purse of nearly $100,000 has been posted for the Buckeye 100, making it by far the richest dirt Late Model event in the nearly 50-year history of Wayne County Speedway.

“We want to have an event at Wayne County Speedway that people circle on their calendars and make plans to come to every year,” said Jason Flory, who is preparing for his second full season co-promoting the track with his wife Kristin. “After talking with (director) Tim Christman of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, we were able to come up with a date for a big show that we think can really work. We decided to go ahead with the Buckeye 100 this year and try to make it a staple event that everyone looks forward to attending.”

Fans can assure themselves prime seating for the Buckeye 100 in Wayne County’s grandstand when two-day reserved tickets go on sale on Mon., Jan. 28. The advance tickets – priced at $50 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-12 – can be purchased using a credit card (with a 3% service charge) by calling the track office at 330-465-2365 or e-mailing Kristin Flory at  This email address is being protected from spambots. The weekend will also include an open practice night on Thurs., April 11, an autograph session with WoO LMS drivers prior to Saturday night’s action and other attractions.

“We’re really excited,” said Jason Flory. “If we could just get Mother Nature to help us out with some nice spring weather, this can really be the show of the year at Wayne County Speedway. With all the great local talent within 50 or 60 miles of Wayne County taking on well-known national and regional drivers, fans are going to see some real memorable racing.

“Last year (on May 25) we brought the World of Outlaws Late Model Series back to Wayne County for the first time since 2006 and the (50-lap) feature went right down to the wire, with Darrell Lanigan passing Tim McCreadie for the win. We’re looking for even more excitement in the Buckeye 100.”

Jason Flory said the “time is right” for Wayne County to host a high-profile, big-money national dirt Late Model event. After the track sat idle for the first half of the 2011 season, it was purchased at auction by Joe McIlvaine and reopened in July of that year under the direction of the Florys, who put their own dirt Late Model driving careers – Jason, 36, is a former Wayne County champion and Kristin, 33, has made a name for herself as one of the country’s top female racers – on the backburner to operate the speedway. McIlvaine, the owner of a truck-leasing business, was close to the Florys as a sponsor of Jason’s racing efforts.

“We love Late Models and believe that Wayne County Speedway is a great place to showcase,” said Jason Flory. “Since we’ve taken over the speedway we’ve had good attendance and some real good shows and we’re excited to give our fans and racers a real big event that will definitely put Wayne County Speedway on the map.”

General admission ticket prices for the Buckeye 100 weekend will be $20 on Fri., April 12, and $30 on Sat., April 13, with kids 6-12 charged $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday. Camping (no hookups) on the speedway grounds will be $25 for the weekend.

More information on the Buckeye 100 weekend, including a time schedule, will be announced in the near future. Checkhttp://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/ or the track’s Facebook page for the latest updates.
