Season Championship Results

ORRVILLE – The cream rose to the top during Saturday night’s last regulary scheduled Fast Five racing program at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway.
Lemoore California’s Cole Macedo solidified himself as one of the favorites in next Sunday’s $15,000-to-win Pete Jacobs Memorial by claiming his second Pine Tree Towing and Recovery 25-lap Sprint Car main event, and 11th overall of the season, while Ryan Markham put the exclamation point on a stellar season by claiming the 25-lap Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model feature. Markham’s triumph was his sixth of the campaign at WCS while recording his seventh career track title in the processand first since 2018.
Mansfield’s Kyle Moore once agin swept the 20-lap Elite Munition Modified and 15-circuit McKenzie Concrete features en route to his 27th and 28th victories of the 2022 season, while Justin Cranmore thrilled the fans with another photo finish in the JoyRide Transport 12-lap Mini Stock feature. It was Carnmore’s fifth trip to WCS’s victory lane. While Markham and Moore earned track titles in the Late Model and Super Stock divisions respectively, Henry Malcuit, by virtue of his season-high three victories picked up the Sprint Car track title, with Colton Shaw claiming the Modified championship to go along with four feature victories. Doug Hensel’s five wins at the speedway, and 10 overall, earned him enough markers in recording the Mini Stock title.
Macedo, arguably the region’s top 410 driver in the Ray Brooks Racing No. 18, grabbed the lead from early leader Chris Myers on lap nine then withstood a furious rally from Wooster’s Trey Jacobs in picking up his second main event victory of the weekend following Friday night’s win at Attica Raceway Park.  Ricky Peterson finished third from his eighth starting spot while Tyler Street raced home fourth, his ninth top-four finish of the season. 2016 track champion Danny Mumaw rounded out the the top five after starting 11th.
“Every time we come here our car is fast and it was again tonight,” said Macedo. “We struggled a little late in the feature with lapped cars. I really didn’t know where they would be and it got a little dirty, too. I knew Trey was on the bottom and would make a run but we had just enough at the end.”
Markham rolled to his fourth consecutive Late Model win and eighth overall 2022 triumph. Markham took the lead early from pole sitter and defending track champ Mitch Caskey, then withstood the charges of JR Gentry and hard -charging Cody Scott. Eric Wilson charged to fourth from his row five starting slot, with Chuck Kimble in tow in completing the top-five.
Brett Bee continued his recent run of top-10 peformances by racing home sixth with Nick Cox, Dustin Smith, Larry Bellman, and Tyler Evans completing the top-10.
The Mini Stocks rolled out next and the finish was nearly a carbon copy of nearly every finish of the 2022 campaign to date.
Cranmore, after starting eighth, grabbed the lead before the halfway point of the 12-lapper, but was pushed across the finish line by a high-flying Chaz Dawson from ninth, and 14th-starting Travis Hutton.
Dawson, who claimed a victory at WCS back on August 6, rode the speedway’s high side and actually pulled even with Cranmore’s No. 2 down the backstretch after receiving the white flag. Dawson’s bid for win two on the season fell just .05 seconds short at the stripe, however, and settled for runner-up honors. Hutton claimed third with pole-sitter Dustin Bedlion and 16th-starting Wes Staley claiming fifth.
The Modifieds hit the 3-8-mile next with all eyes glued to Moore, who started on the tail after suffering mechanical issues in his heat race. While Shaw raced to a sizable advantage early, a caution bunched the field mid-race, which allowed Moore’s TA Perrine 16T to methodically move to the front.
Once in front Moore cruised to his 11th Modified victory of the season and fourth staright at WCS. Shaw raced home second with veterans DJ Cline and Alan Baker third and fourth. 10th-starting Aaron Phillis rounhded out the top-five.
Moore has been nearly unstopable in the Super Stock division and Saturday was no different for the pilot of Bob Daughtery’s 21D machine. Moore took an early lead from front row starters Tyler Wiles and Braden Tucke from the fourth row and cruised to his 10th WCS victory.
Tyler Wiles turned in his most impressive run of the season in claiming second, with Paul Holmes, Took Wiles, and Tucke rounding out the top-five.
The Speedway will sit idle next Saturday in preparattion for Sunday night’s Pete Jacobs Memorial. Gates will open at 3, with hot laps at 6 and first race scheduled to hit the paper-clipped shaped oval at 7. The 305 RaceSaver sprints will also join the card. Clute, Texas star Aaron Ruetzel is the defending champion of the event.
