For the past few years, Trey Jacobs has been so close to winning his first All Star Circuit of Champions feature and also the Pete Jacobs Memorial at Wayne County Speedway but has came up short, but Sunday night, he checked off both boxes as he claimed the win and the race honoring his great grandfather, as he drove away late in the race for the win. The Wooster driver would start the night out by being the Capitol Custom Trailers fast qualifier at 14. 026 seconds, finish third in his heat race and the dash that would place him in the third starting position in the 40 lap feature. At the drop of the green flag, dash winner Brandon Spithaler and outside front row starter Zeth Sabo would make contact coming out of turn two with Spithaler flipping, ending his night while Sabo was able to continue after some repairs and restart at the back of the field. This would put Jacobs and Cap Henry on the front row and when the race resumed, Henry Malcuit zoomed past both to take the lead. Malcuit, who won his first All Star race at WCS last season and has two wins at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway this season, would set a torrid pace as Jacobs, Henry, Cale Thomas and Darrin Naida went wing to wing for second in the first half of the race. The feature would change on lap 22 as Malcuit’s right rear tire went flat to bring out the caution flag and end his chance at the win. Jacobs would inherit the lead and with clean air in front of the Nagy’s Performance Products, Interstate Truck Repair, Kilgore & Herring Accounting and Heitmeyer Concrete # 28n, Jacobs would pull away as Cale Thomas, Cap Henry, Sabo who had his way back to the front, Greg Wison and Naida would duel for second, allowing Jacobs to get up to a three second lead at times. A couple of cautions in the closing laps bunched the field together, but Jacobs hammered down on the restarts to collect the checkered flag. Thomas would outduel Henry for second as Sabo grabbed fourth ahead of Wilson.
Colton Shaw set the pace for the first 12 circuits of the Canton Glass House Super Stock main with Paul Holmes in pursuit, but Holmes made contact with the turn two wall ending his race on lap five. Shaw bounced off the turn one wall on the 12th circuit, and as he did that, it allowed Rocky Kugel and Braden Tucke to get by as Shaw kept his machine moving. Kugel and his Calcutta based, Myers Service Center, Wells Investments, Kosar Excavating and Kevin Green Motorsports #0 kept Tucke at bay to visit the Summit Racing victory circle for the second time this season. Shaw hung on to third as Hensel recorded his third fourth place finish of the season as Jose Marsh finished fifth for his eighth top five finish of the year.
Much like the All Star race, the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modified feature did not make it to the back stretch as Ryan Robey and Jason King got together with a lot of damage to Robey’s car as he would continue until lap nine before pulling off. King would recover and challenge the leaders late in the race. Once the feature went green, Ryan Markham, using the high side of Orrville’s Historic Oval, and Nate Arp, using the low groove, would swap the lead several times in the first 9 laps when Markham would spin out in turn one. With the double file restarts, Arp would take the inside line as Loudonville’s Jimmy Humphrey took outside. Humphrey, who likes the low groove also, was able to use the middle of the track and overtake Arp and moved to the low part of the track and hold off Arp the rest of the way for his first win of the season aboard the Humphrey Excavating, Dye Plumbing, Jimmy Dean Chicks and Mohican Adventures #60. King recovered to out battle Mitchell Lam for third with Jesse Griffitts collecting his second fifth place finish of the year.
Wayne County Speedway will be back in action Friday and Saturday, September 25 & 26 for the Ohio Dirt Blowout Weekend with the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model, the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modifieds, the Canton Glass House Super Stocks and the Joyride Transport Sport Compacts on Friday night then the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association will add on to the Saturday with all classes in action plus the Sam Huffman Memorial for the Sport Compacts.
