For the second time this season, all five classes were in action at Wayne County Speedway on White’s Ford night for Christmas in July along with the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association making their first appearance after a handful of rain outs. All feature winners cashed in on a $500 bonus thanks to Triple B Heating & Cooling. The evening started out with Tyler Street picking up the JDR Parts Barn and Sales Quick Time award for the OVSCA Sprints then the Mt. Vernon driver would win his heat and then redraw the #2 pill to start outside front row with teammate Dylan Kingan on the pole of the 25 lap feature. Street grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag as two caution flags in the opening ten laps kept the field close together. Danny Mumaw and Henry Malcuit was in a battle for second in those opening ten circuits and on the restart, Malcuit took control of second from Mumaw and set sail for Street. Jordan Ryan took over fourth as Chris and Jamie Myers along with Kingan and Rayce Jacobs all went for a top five finish but on lap 16, Chris Myers came to a stop to drop from the race. On the final restart, Street and his 89 Homes, K&R Supply and Shortstop # 7* would keep Malcuit at bay to pocket the win with Malcuit, Mumaw and Ryan in tow with Jacobs driving to the fifth place finish.
Mansfield’s Kyle Moore would also start on the outside front row of the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model main event and would go fender to fender in the opening laps with Doug Drown but Moore and his 803 Co., Kepling Flooring and R.L. Bond Septic would start to pull away from Drown as Ryan Markham raced with Todd Brennan for third as a caution on lap 20 would bring the field back together and the restart would see Moore drive away from Drown to post his second win of the season with Drown taking second. As the green flag reappeared after the lap 20 caution, Brennan slipped past Markham who would return the favor two circuits later to claim third over Brennan as Tyler Evans out raced Larry Bellman and J R Gentry for fifth.
With a complete invert for the Flynn’s Tire and Auto Service Modified feature, Kyle Moore would start last in the 12 car field as D J Miller would set the early pace getting by front row starters Jesse Griffitts and Cade Alexander but Denny Benjamin took the point on lap two when D J Miller went over the backstretch lip and then bring out the yellow flag on lap 9 with a spin. All during those first 9 circuits, Moore and 10th starting Jimmy Humphrey was quietly working their way to the front. With the green back out, Humphrey went low and Moore went high as both passed Benjamin for the lead and both would use those grooves around the track and alternate the top spot until lap 16 when Moore and his McKenzie Concrete, Shortstop, and Joyride Transport #21d took the point for good to collect his second Modified win of the season. Humphrey finished second as Ron Miller slipped past Benjamin for third with Gary Sullivan filled out the top five.
Several cautions and a red flag for Mark Edwards when he rolled on lap five would keep the Canton Glass House Super Stocks bunched together and during the green flag portion of the 15 lap event Barry Fairbanks and Brandon Craver tussled for the lead. Using the middle groove of Orrville’s Historic Oval, Fairbanks led the way as Craver was using the highside to keep the pressure on lap after lap. With the white flag waving the two leaders were side by side and as the checkered flag went up in the air, Fairbanks would loop out in turn four and Craver brought the Ohio Paper Tube, Global Transport and Mid’s Sauces #771 to the Summit Racing victory circle for the first time this year. Don Rutt held off Jose Marsh for second as Matt Hensel collected fourth with Fairbanks rounding out the top five
Peyton Davis set a fast pace in the opening laps of the Joyride Transport Sport Compact feature but mechanical issues slowed him up and allowed Valek Menough to motor past and score his first win as the Salem driver was piloting the Trash Talk Dumpsters, Wizink Tattoo anfinishd Bullet Proof Welding #311 usually driven by Johnny Bruce. Menough was chased to the finish line by Trent Bishop, Bryan Baker, Jimmy Burns as Davis limped to a fifth place.
Next Saturday, August 1, the Monster Trucks invade Wayne County Speedway along with FMX Stunt Show. No regular racing will take place next Saturday. Gates will open at 5 pm with activity getting underway at 7 pm. Fans can buy their tickets early by going to My Race Pass/ Wayne County Speedway. Watch Turn 2 Talk on the tracks facebook and You Tube page every Sunday night at 7 pm with Ryan Pearson and Jason Flory.
All five classes will be back in action on Saturday, August 8 for Kid’s Night as the OVSCA returns with the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and the Sport Compacts.
