A total of nine features took place Saturday night at Orrville’s Historic Oval as rain the past few weeks caused postponement of four of the features to be finished up on Santmyer Energy night. The Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association would make it’s fourth visit to WCS and when the checkered flag waved, Strasburg’s Henry Malcuit became the fourth different winner for the series and his second Pine Tree Towing and Recovery sprint win of the season at Wayne County Speedway. The Sugar Creek Cartage, McIntosh Oil and Red Malcuit Inc. # 70 started on the pole with Danny Mumaw staying with Malcuit as Jordan Ryan, Trey Jacobs, Kody Brewer and Tyler Street were changing positions on every lap until lap seven when the red flag waved as Carlos Salazar hit the front stretch wall and collected Chris Myers and T J Michael. Malcuit would not have much breathing room as he set the pace as he ran the high groove and Mumaw the bottom of the track until lap 17 when Mumaw did a 360 spin in turn 4 and then drop out a few laps later. This would put Jacobs into second and then a caution on lap 22 would bunch the top five together for the final laps. Jacobs would try a couple of sliders in the closing circuits but could never finish the deal coming out of turn four with the checkers waving. Ryan would edge past Brewer for third as Street finished fifth.
The Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models had double duty and in the make up feature from August 8, it was all Kyle Moore as the Mansfield driver and his Kepling Flooring, Smitley Towing and The Shortstop #1* cruised to his fourth win of the year as Ryan Markham held off Doug Drown for second as Brandon Morrow and Larry Bellman filled out the top five. For the second feature, the Throttle & Threads Wheel of Doom spin came up with a full invert for the start of the feature and the action came quickly as Moore, Drown and Doug Baird got together on the opening lap as all three would continue. As the race got going again, J R Gentry would lead the way with Morrow in second as Moore powered his way to third. Those two would slide and crossover each other as Gentry pulled away. On lap 15, Moore spun out in turn two and under caution hit Morrow’s car ending his night as Moore was given the black flag, During the clean up process, Gentry developed a flat tire and went pit side to change it, giving the lead to Markham. The Ashland Driver and his B & B Drain Service, Beer Barrel Drive Thru and Mars Trucking #5m held of Drown for his 1st WCS win of the season. Matt Aber took third as Gentry recovered for fourth and Bellman scored his second fifth place finish.
The Canton Glass House Super Stocks would finish up there August 15th race for the Danny Gardner Memorial as Strasburg’s Paul Holmes and Braden Tucke had caused a caution and the rain started so the would restart at the back of the field and quickly worked there was back to the front as Holmes reclaimed the lead and kept Tucke at bay to pocket his first win of the season and his second Danny Gardner Memorial. Denny Shear finished third with Matt Hensel and Jose Marsh following. The Throttle & Threads Wheel of Doom also spun to a stop on the full invert for the Super Stocks as the fast cars in the back worked their way to the front as Creston’s Jason Flory and his Platinum Designs, WCS and Paul McVicker #U4 out dueled Colton Cook and Rocky Kugel for the point and then held them off for his first win. Brandon Craver was in the mix with Cook and Kugel as he finished fourth ahead of Tucke.
Mansfield’s Kyle Moore would post his third and fourth wins in the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modifieds as the McKenzie Concrete, The Shortstop and Joyride Transport #21d held off early race challenges by Eric Wilson, who in the regular race, smacked off the front stretch on lap 13 and slowed his chances at the win as Jimmy Humphrey scored a third place finish. Driving the Wiles #187, J R Gentry captured fourth as Nate Arp was fifth in the regular feature. Following Moore in the August 8 make up main was Markham out dueling Wilson for second with Humphrey and Gentry filling out the top five.
Cody Mussleman of Ashland notched his first two trips to the Summit Racing Victory Circle in the Joyride Transport Sport Compact features. The Gentry Dumpster, Shine Pro Detailing and Dream Huge Realty-Holly Walker Agent #7c battled with Peyton Davis in the make up feature from August 15 and made the winning pass in the closing laps for the first win. Trent Bishop, Jimmy Burns and Johnny Bruce rounded out the top five. Mussleman breezed to the win in the regular race as Jacob Syx and Colton Davis were a distant second and third while Jimmy Burns posted his second fourth place finish of the evening and Melinda Bricker took fifth.
Next weekend at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway will be a two day show with the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints as Saturday will be the Bob Chaney Memorial with $7,500 to win and then Sunday it’s the $10,000 to win Pete Jacobs Memorial. The Canton Glass House Super Stocks and the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Modifieds will be in action both days. Check out the tracks Facebook page for the latest information on upcoming events.
