On Buckeye Corrugated Inc. at Orrville’s Historic Oval, two drivers picked up their first wins of the season before the rain started and stopped the remaining features to be contested. The Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model feature would see Wooster’s Doug Drown lead the field into turn one with Todd Brennan in his tire tracks while outside front row starter Kyle Moore dropping into third as he and Brennan would battle for second in the early laps. As they went wheel to wheel for second, that gave Drown and his Malcuit Tavern, Ely Manufacturing and JoyRide Transport #79 a chance to open a sizable lead. J R Gentry would close in on Brennan and Moore to make it a three way tussle for second on lap five. Mechanical issues with Brennan’s car would drop him from contention on lap 13 as Moore would start to slice into Drown’s two and a half second lead. With the two leaders weaving through slower cars, Moore would finally get to the back of Drown and made a run coming out of turn four but would come up short at the finish line of the caution free feature ending his seven feature win streak in the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Race to the Championship points races. Gentry would finish third ahead of Ryan Markham as Race Gardiner posted hid first top five finish.
The Canton Glass House feature saw Brad Hensel out racing Colton Cook into turn one for the top spot as the rain started to fall lightly, Cook tried every which way to get by Hensel but the Smithville driver would keep the #77 out front as the track became slippery enough that the red flag waved on lap nine of the 15 lap event. Despite an attempt to get the track back to racing condition by the track crew, the rain started falling a little harder, ending the rest of the races as the Super Stock feature was over halfway and considered complete giving Hensel his first win of the season .
The Flynn’s Tire and Auto Service Modifieds and the JoyRide Transport Mini Stocks will race double features next week.
It will be Christmas in July as Santa Claus will visit Wayne County Speedway with some gifts as the FAST on Dirt sprints return for the second time this year for the Rick Susong Memorial along with a full program of Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Mini Stocks as Gated will open at 3 pm and racing at 7 pm.
