A full night of action took place as the Honest Abe Roofing Fast on Dirt rolled into Orrville’s Historic Oval plus the final O’Reilly;s Auto Parts Race to the Championship crowns were on the line for all five class’. The Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints started the night with Danny Mumaw and Tyler Street vying for the title while Kyle Moore had the crown in hand for both the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models and the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modifieds while Brandon Craver had locked up the Canton Glass House Super Stocks championship as both just needed to start the features. The JoyRide Transport trophy was up for grabs between Johnny Bruce and Cody Musselman as only six points separated them as the night started.
Tyler Gunn and Henry Malcuit brought the Honest Abe Roofing main to the green flag but Ricky Peterson roared into the lead from his fourth starting spot as Malcuit Tyler Street Mumaw and Gunn following. A red flag for Lance Heinberger who flipped in turn four on lap six as it was Peterson, Gunn, Malcuit Street and Trey Jacobs in the top five when the green flag reappeared, Gunn and Malcuit moved past Peterson with Street and Jacobs in pursuit. Jacobs would slow on the front stretch to bring out the yellow flag on lap 13. Street would move into second on the next circuit and motor past Gunn on lap 18 as Jordan Ryan was on the move, taking third on lap 19. A couple of cautions on laps 20 and 25 would keep the field bunched togetherand before going back to green on lap 25, Fast on Dirt officials stopped the action for an open red flag so everyone could refuel. The restart saw Street building a lead with Ryan and Malcuit, who was looking for his fourth win in a row at WCS, dueling for second as Chris Myers, Tanner Tecco and Mumaw was in a three battle for fourth. With Street leading and coming to the white flag, the power plant in the 7* quit running ending his chance at the win and the track championship. It would be a one lap dash to the checker flag and Tyler Gunn of Napoleon and his Gunn’s Auto Service, KK Collision and Premier Patching #68g would hold off Jordan Ryan for his first win of the year at Wayne County Speedway. Malcuit hung on to third with Tanner Tecco slipping past Chris Myers to take fourth. By finishing sixth with Street dropping out of the feature, Mumaw claims the championship.
Mansfield’s Kyle Moore locked up the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model crown by starting the feature and he and Todd Brennan would bring the field to the green flag and they would stay side by side coming out of turn four on the opening circuit when they made heavy contact that would lead to a multi car pile up. Brennan’s car hit the wall past the flag stand as J R Gentry’s ride went airborne over Brennan, flipping and rolling to a stop upside down. He was ok as he exited his mangled car. Ryan Markham, Mike McGinnis and Austin Bright’s cars received damage as Bright could not continue. Moore’s Platinum Designs, Kepling Flooring and Evan’s Elite Paving #1* would pull away for his ninth win of the season and pocket his second straight championship. Recovering from early evening problems, Tyler Evans came from his 14th starting position to grab second ahead of Cody Scott. Two up and coming youngsters filled out the top five with Billy Dawson and Race Gardiner taking home fourth and fifth.
Jordan Conover led all the way in the Canton Glass House Super Stocks to secure his third win of the season aboard the Forest based, Stillwater Metal, McKee Auto Sales and Ohio Surplus #7c. With the championship in hand, Brandon Craver pursued Conover early in the race until a flat tire and a change of the tire sent him to the back of the field and handed Doug Drown second. Drown could not challenge Conover for the win as the closing laps saw Craver work past Denny Shear and Matt Hensel as they finished in that order.
The Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service Modifieds would see Kyle Moore and Ryan Markham on the front row of the main event and Moore would take the lead in the McKenzie Concrete, R.C. Kuhn’s and Sons and United Concrete #21d and lead all the way for his 8th win of the season and claim the title. Cautions throughout the race would give Brad Goff chances at overtaking Moore but never could give a serious challenge. Markham, Tristen Bickford and Jimmy Humphrey wheeled and dealed for top five placing as they ended in that order when the black and white flag waved.
The final race of the night had the closest battle for the JoyRide Transport Mini Stocks points but it was over before the race started as Cody Musselman’s car would not fire and he would get a DNS for the night as Johnny Bruce pocketed the championship. As the race went green, Anthony Collins, David Potter, Moose Workman, Bruce and Kyle Petit were in a freight train battle for the top spot. Staying bumper to bumper, they would race that way until lap 10, as they came out of turn two, Collins lost a wheel that cleared the backstretch billboard signs, landing in the cornfield and ending his night. Potter got loose on the restart with Petit and Bruce getting by Potter and the Jeromesville driver and his Hardridge Restoration, Applecreek Drive Thru and Down & Dirty Services held off Bruce and score his third win in a row and fourth of the year. Valek Menough finished third followed by Trent Bishop and Potter.
Next Sunday, August 31, the All Star Sprints return for the Pete Jacobs Memorial with the open 305 Sprints and the Flynn’s Tire & Auto Modifieds. Gates will open at 3 pm with hot laps at 6 pm and racing at 7:15 pm.
