Late Model Driver Rick Moore Passes
Mansfield, OH --- Rickey C. Moore, Sr., 45, of Mansfield, died Wednesday August 15, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loved ones following an extended illness. He was born October 19, 1961 in Clay, West Virginia and lived in the Mansfield area his entire life. Moore had been an employee at Hall’s Auto Sales, Jerry’s Auto Sales and Skarl Pontiac and Buick.
Moore, a devoted family man, married to Loretta, the father of six children and five grandchildren. He raced for 32 years starting at age
13 until his illness. His first race was at Hilltop Speedway. During his racing career Moore has competed and won in Street Stocks and Late Models and has captured wins and championships at Lakeville Speedway, Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway and Mansfield Speedway.
In 1997 he won championships at both Lakeville and Wayne County speedways. During his career he won championships at Mansfield in addition to Lakeville and Wayne County Speedways.
Other accomplishments of Moore’s included being a three-time back to back Street Stock National Champion at Mansfield Raceway Park. 2000 was the first full season in Late Model Division where he had one win and 11 top fives and finished third overall in points for 2000. In 2003 he won the Henry McIntire/ Randy Litzenburg Memorial 40 at Lakeville Speedway.
Over the years Moore raced the Leroy Hall-owned #240 sponsored by Hall’s Auto Sales, the Art Jones-owned #J7, the Bob Gaubtz-owned #18 and his own team car, the #2 Late Model. Rick is third on the all-time feature winner’s list at Lakeville Speedway.
His father, Jerry, was a long time successful driver as was his brother, Johnny. Rick’s sons, Brad (Late Models) and Kyle (Mini Stocks) have raced.
On Saturday, August 11, 2007 he was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame at Lakeville Speedway.
Over the years some of his crew members included Barry Jones, Ken Rose, Rickey, Brad & Kyle Moore, Jason Hinton, Jeff Smith, Burn-Out and others. During his career some of his sponsors included Hall’s Auto Sales, Jerry Moore Auto Sales, Dave & Judy Hedrick, Reedy Repair, Tim Anderson, Bob & Judy Schippers, Sophie's Custom Embroidery, Jones Automotive, Rodney Bond Septic Service, RacingSeat.com, B-Dry Systems, Anderson Brothers Engines, Rick Bond Excavating and others.
Moore is survived by his wife, Loretta (Rose) Moore; three daughters, Lanetta (Ray) Mullins, Casey Moore and Tosha Moore, all of Mansfield; three sons, Rickey Moore, Brad Moore and Kyle Moore, all of Mansfield; five grandchildren, Kalie, Michael, Alicia and Alexus Amick and Isaiah Moore; his parents, Jerry and Helen (Browning) Moore; two sisters, Cheryl (Arthur) Stamper and Becky Moore; maternal grandmother, Goldie Browning; one brother, Johnny Moore; two nephews, Kevin and Bobby Stamper, both of Mansfield; two nieces, Stacey Burgess and Amber Hunt, both of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Frieda (Randy) Shade; two brothers-in-law, Kenny and Brian Rose, both of Mansfield; and mother-in-law, Jean Rose. Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Jerry Moore, Sr., grandmother, Cathaleen Moore, nephew, Jerry Stamper and maternal grandfather, Hunter Browning.
The family offers a special thanks to Jean Rose, Leroy and Sue Hall, Kim Wright and Chris Quicksaw for making all things possible.
Friends may call Sunday, August 19 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Castle officiating.
