WCS’ Faster Pastor Finale To Get International TV Coverage Friday

WCS’ Faster Pastor Finale To Get International TV Coverage Friday

Orrville, OH --- The grand finale for the Faster Pastor races will be held Friday September 1 at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH as part of the two-day Inaugural Summer Sizzler weekend extravaganza and in addition to crowning the 2006 Faster Pastor Champion the event will be covered by a television production company based in England. In addition to the Faster Pastor championship finale for the season, the 11th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial headlining the Super Late Models will also be held that night.

IMG Media, an international company based in London, England will be on hand with a production crew to film and interview participants for their upcoming Leap Of Faith documentary that looks at the relationship between sports and religion.

“Leap of Faith will look at the relationship between religion and sport, and we touch upon several topics such as soccer in the UK, as well as boxing, athletics and also your speed way event,” explained James Rowat, a producer for IMG Media. “The program is fronted by the athlete Michael Johnson who guides us on a spiritual journey through this topic, and assesses the role religion plays in sport.”

“The program will air in the UK in November. At this point we have filmed a couple of Soccer players in the UK, Gavin Peacock and Richard Rufus, and we hope to get a few more athletes ‘in the can’.”

Friday’s Faster Pastor season finale will consist of the top two finishers in the previous three Faster Pastor races held throughout the summer. Among those pastors who will be competing for the title include Russ Ward of the Stewart Road Church of God, Mansfield; Dean Hammond of the Parkview Church of Christ, Wooster; Bob Hines of the Holmesville Church of Christ, Holmesville; Ed Frederick of the St. Paul Community Church; Brian Phillips of the Wyandot Freewill Baptist, Mansfield and Jonatan Rumburg of the First Christian Church, Wadsworth.

The pastors’ race in Mini Stock racecars provided to them by WCS competitors. Race fans attending donate food items designated for their favorite pastor and the pastors are lined up for the race in order of the amount of donated food items they each receive.

Also on tap Friday night will be the 11th Annual Pete Jacobs Memorial will be held with Super Late Models headlining in a 40-lap $2,500 to win main event. Additionally, the Inaugural Ken Jacobs Memorial Dash will be held for the top six qualifiers with $1,000 going to the winner of the six-lap dash race. Also appearing that evening will be Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks and a special autograph session with drivers like Blaine Aber, Doug Drown, Clint Coffman, Eric Smitley & many, many others.

On Saturday September 2 the 3rd Annual Freedom Fighters 50 will be staged featuring the Super Late Models in a $5,000 to win main event along with the Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks. WCS promoter Ernie Coffman has also instituted a bonus program, the Orry Wirt Memorial Driver Challenge where if one Late Model driver wins the features on Friday night and Saturday night, they will earn a $25,000 bonus! Additionally, we’re going to have a program where one lucky fan has the chance to win $25,000 also if the fan who is chosen at random can match up to the top two finishers in Saturday night’s Freedom Fighters 50 race.

Tickets at the gate the day of the event are Adult General Admission $18; Senior Citizens $15; Children 15 & Under Free; Pit Passes $30 each night.
