Kinkade wins Renegade of Dirt Modified feature; Duncan, Hutchinson, Patterson victorious at NAPA Auto Parts WCS

Written by Ryan Pearson.

Orrville, Ohio (August 3, 2012) On a beautiful night of racing the crowd at NAPA Auto Parts were once again treated with thrilling races and daring passes.

When the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour set their sights an a two day weekend deep in the heart of “Amish Country” you can bet their going to serve up a plethora of decadent treats for Buckeye State race fans of all ages. A track most popularly known for its intense sprint car action was headlined by a open wheel division of a a different kind Friday Night when the tour made its return visit to the dirt facility. Dubbed as one of the nations most talented rosters, the open wheel pilots converged on the lighting fast 3/8th mile facility in front of a massive Wayne County Speedway crowd.

Renegade of Dirt racing action got underway this evening as Zanesville, OH's Rick Aukland stormed out of the gate and laid claim the Two Brothers Motorsports Quick Time Award. In Heat race number one it was much of the same as the fourth starting “Badland's Bandit” terrorized the stellar qualifying heat race to grab the checkered. A stacked heat race number two rolled out on to the speedway and saw current Renegade of Dirt points leader Bobby Kitchen take the point and never look back holding off teammate Bart Hartman for the win. St. Clairsville, OH's DJ Cline took the green on heat race number three from his outside second row position and quickly maneuvered his mount to the lead and never looked back during the ten lap event. The Integra Shocks and Springs B-Main was next to take over the race track and saw Bruce Miller grab the early point. Miller would then continue to show the way through the twelve lap B-Main and was followed across the stripe by A-Main transfers Deana Groves and Scott Stiffler.

When the sun set on the well manicured dirt oval facility the sold out Wayne County Speedway crowd on hand witnessed a literal “Duel on Dirt.” Fans were treated to an entire entree of two and three wide racing action during the thirty lap Arizona Sports Shirts A-Main. Aukland grabbed the lead from his outside front row position but would relinquish his lead to DJ Cline on lap eight when his 2a entry lost the driveshaft entering turn number three. A persistent Kevin Morehouse found his way challenging Kinkade and Cline for the top dog position as the trio battled back and forth at the midway point. Zanesville, OH's Anthony Kinkade then took advantage of a slight push from the #4 of Cline to gain the front spot on the field. Furthermore, the talented field continued to do battle for positing from front to back throughout. However a flawless Kinkade would go on to park his royal blue #144 into the Renegades of Dirt Victory Lane for the first time. As an all smiles Anthony Kinkade climbed out of the car he went on to tell speedway announcers, “Wow, I didn't think we we're going to be that good but we will take it.” “I kept seeing Morehouse on the inside then on the outside and I gave it all I had and we held him off, nights like tonight make your really wish these cars had rear view mirrors” jokingly stated the local favorite. Following Kinkade across the line to round out your top five were Morehouse, Cline, Wilson, and J. Hartman.

In the Fisher Performance 410 Sprints Cole Duncan and Andre Layfield paced the field. At the drop of the green flag both Duncan and Layfield dragged raced down the front straight away Duncan moved up the race track and collided with Layfield causing him to crash hard into the guardrail resulting in heavy damage and early ending to his night. The red flag was displayed and when the racing resumed Danny Mumaw moved to the outside front row. At the drop of the green flag Mumaw jumped to the high side and spun, hopped the cushion and struck the guardrail ending the current points leader night. With another complete restart set Duncan and Andrew Palker paced the field. At the drop Palker seized the early lead but it was short lived as Duncan found the inside grove to his liking. As Duncan held the lead seventh starting Nathan Skaggs pressed forward and on lap thirteen he passed Palker for second. As the laps wound down eighteenth starting Kory Crabtree powered past Bryce Dickson and chased down Palker with a tight battle for the third position. At the checkered flag taking his second win this season at WCS was Duncan just ahead of Skaggs, Crabtree, Palker and Dickson. Mumaw, Duncan and Chris Myers won heat races.

In the Lias Tire Super Late Model division Weston Hutchinson slipped to the early lead just ahead of George Lee, Ryan Markham, David Liles and Cory Conley. Hutchinson didn’t waste any time and immediately stretched a large lead over the field. On lap ten Markham and Conley battled for third position. Conley eventually worked past Markham for position. On lap sixteen the caution flew for sixth running and current point leader Shane McLoughlin who stopped on the track with mechanical issues. Hutchinson jumped back to a large lead when racing resumed but a tight battle for second place was waging as Conley and Lee battled for second. At the finish line it was Hutchinson coming home the winner, he was followed by Conley, Lee, Markham, Liles and Rick Bond. Conley, Charlie Maloney and Lee won heat races. This race is a Black Diamond 125 qualifier and Hutchinson will have a shot at the big money race in late August.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks Chase Alexander motored to the early lead. A great battle shaped up as Alexander, Justin Patterson and Don Baney battled two and three wide for the lead. The caution flag flew with Alexander holding on to the lead. On lap five Patterson and Alexander raced door handle to door handle lap after lap. After an epic battle Patterson cleared Alexander to take the lead. On the final lap third running Eric Eicholtz made contact with Alexander which resulted in Eicholtz being placed to rear of the field. At the checkered flag it was Patterson winning his first of the season at WCS. He was followed by Alexander, Brandon Gardner, Baney and Brandon Craver. Jeremy Dickerson, Alexander and Gardner won heat races.

Mumaw, Conley, Dickson and Craver winners at NAPA Auto Parts WCS July 27th

Written by Ryan Pearson.

Orrville, Ohio (July 27, 2012) On NAPA night at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway race fans were treated to an action packed night full of great door handle to door handle dirt slinging action.

In the Fisher Performance 410 Sprint s Wooster Ohio’s Danny Mumaw jumped out to the early lead just ahead of Broc Martin, Andrew Palker, Bryce Dickson, Chris Myers, Aaron Middaugh and Cole Duncan. Mumaw lead was short lived as Martin dove under Mumaw to snag the lead. Martin found the inside lane to his liking as he held the point. Mumaw running the extreme high side was his preferred way around the track. On lap eight the lapped car of Ron Lute spun coming to rest near the guardrail. This caused Mumaw to take evasive action to narrowly miss Lute. When the racing resumed Martin powered ahead to hold a comfortable lead but as the laps clicked down Mumaw began a late race charge. Mumaw and Martin traded slide jobs and on lap eighteen Mumaw and Martin made contact and Mumaw took the lead. At the checkered flag it was Mumaw who held on to win ahead of Martin, Palker, Duncan and Jamie Myers. Winning heat races were Palker and Mumaw.

In the Lias Tire Super Late Models belam ensued on the opening lap as the leaders of George Lee, Cory Conley, Ryan Markham and Shane McLoughlin were racing hard two and three wide and resulted in Conley spinning in front of the field. This cause massive pile up that resulted in Damon Haught to spin and strike tire and go air born, Haught was ok but he would retire for the night. When the green flag dropped again Lee jumped to the lead. Lee pulled away from the pack but on lap fourteen Conley pulled up on the rear bumper of Lee and began stalking him waiting for a mistake. Lee held the lead until the last lap and Conley pulled alongside Lee as the raced down the back stretch with Conley holding the inside line. Lee attempted to make the highside work but to no avail as the checkered flag waved it was Conley coming home victorious over Lee, McLoughlin, Charlie Duncan, Wayne Maffet Jr and sixteenth starting JR Gentry. McLoughlin and Conley won heat races.

In the Bremenour Electric Modified division Jess Hartman jumped to the early lead he was chased down by Travis Dickson, Mark Dickson, Tanner Wilson, Kevin Morehouse and Norm Aronhalt. Morehouse who started sixth began pushing toward the front as he used the middle of the track to slip past Wilson and Mark Dickson and set his sights on the leaders. Hartman held the lead but Travis Dickson was right on his tail. Travis Dickson dove to the inside of Hartman but Hartman powered back to the point on lap eleven. On lap tweleve Travis Dickson moved to the outside to slip past Hartman for the lead. Morehouse watched from the third position and also motored past Hartman for second. At the finish line it was Travis Dickson coming home the winner ahead of Morehouse, Hartman, Aronhalt, Mark Dickson and Wilson. Travis Dickson and Hartman won heat races.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks it was Mansfield Ohio’s Jeremy Dickerson jumping out to the early lead. On lap two second place running Chase Alexander spun and struck the uke tire collecting Brandon Gardner. When the racing resumed several drivers battled for position as they raced two and three wide. Dickerson held the lead but Justin Patterson was right on his bumper and applying heavy pressure to the leader but on lap ten Patterson looked like he might have found a way around Dickerson but took his car to the pits retiring due to mechanical issues. On lap thirteen Brandon Craver dove under Dickerson to take the lead. Craver held on to take home his first victory at NAPA Auto Parts WCS ahead of Don Baney Jr., Dickerson, Josh Miller and ninth starting Gary Hensel. Dickerson and Gardner won heat races.

Chaney, Dickinson, Wisecarver, King winners at NAPA Auto Parts WCS

Written by Ryan Pearson.

Orrville, Ohio (July 20, 2012) NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway Officials swung open the gates and the fans that were in attendance were treated an action packed night full of great racing on Whites-Maibach Ford night.

In the Fisher Performance 410 Sprint division it was Port Vue Pennsylvania Pete Miller III who jumped to the early lead. On lap four Jason Dolick jumped the cushion in turn one and flipped bringing out the red flag. Miller held on to the lead when the racing resumed but the red flag was displayed again when Aaron Fry who attempted to miss two cars who spun and were blocking the track jumped the cushion and climbed the wall and flipped. Once the green flag flew Miller took the point and held the lead. Wooster, Ohio Broc Martin began charging to the front as he passed Andrew Palker and closed in on Miller. Martin began stalking Miller and slipped past him to take the lead. Sixth starting Rob Chaney blast past Miller and Cole Duncan and on lap seventeen caught Martin as the cars were in lapped traffic. As Martin was leading took the low line he was blocked by a lapped car thus allowing Chaney on the highside to slip shot around and take the lead. Duncan began charging to the front also passed Martin for second and tried to catch Chaney. It was too little too late as the checkers flew for Chaney who took his second win of the season. He was followed by Duncan, Martin, Aaron Middaugh and Miller. Palker, Chaney and Danny Mumaw won heats.

In the Lias Tire Super Late Models it was Shane McLoughlin who pulled out to the point ahead of Doug Drown and Russ King. On the opening lap King powered past Drown to take second and dove under McLoughlin to take the lead. As the cars were in turn 3 and 4 contact ensued between King and McLoughlin allowed Drown to blast passed them both to take the lead. King was able to pull away from McLoughlin for second place and got into a rhythm as he chased down Drown. George Lee jumped up to third place and began applying heavy pressure to King for second place. On lap eleven Lee wheeled in to the pits with mechanical issues. On lap eighteen King entered turn one on the outside and overtook the lead and never looked back. At the finish line it was King followed by Drown, McLoughlin who fell back to seventh and worked his way back up to the third place finish, Wayne Maffet Jr and eleventh starting JR Gentry. King, Lee and McLoughlin won heat races.

In the Bremenour Electric Modifieds it was Jesse Wisecarver who took the early lead. On lap three the caution flew as second place Norm Aronhalt hit and spun Wisecarver. Aronhalt then retired to the pits as it was brake failure that caused him to hit Wisecarver. That moved Travis Dickson to second, Mark Dickson to third and Anthony Kinkade to fourth. Kinkade looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he flew past both Dicksons and began pressuring Wisecarver. On lap twelve Kinkade passed Wisecarver to take the lead. On lap fifteen the caution flew as the leader Kinkade came to stop on the race track with mechanical issues. This handled the lead back to Wisecarver. At the checker flag Wisecarver took the win ahead of Travis Dickson, Mark Dickson, Sid Danals and Tanner Wilson. Winning heats were Kinkade, Travis Dickson and Jess Hartman.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks it was Kyle Dickinson who took the early lead ahead of Justin Patterson, Jeremy Dickerson, Shaun Cains and Gary Hoopingarner. On lap five Dickerson struck the guardrail bringing out the caution as he was running third. When the racing resumed ninth starting Don Baney flew past Cains and Hoopingarner to jump to third place. He attempted to catch the leaders but it just wasn’t enough as the checkered waved it was Dickinson taking home the win in commanding fashion. He was followed by Patterson, Baney, Hoopingarner, Gary Hensel and Cains. Dickerson, Dickinson and Patterson won heat races.
