MARTIN MASTERS NAPA WCS SPRINTS; DROWN DIALS UP L.M.  VICTORY
Friday, May 17, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

Wooster's Broc Martin rolled out for the first time this season in the  Fisher Performance Sprints at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway and looked  to be in mid season form as he drew the number one pill to start on the pole of  the 25 lap feature and would lead all the way to park the Santmyer Oil, SCFN,  and Jim Smith #83 in victory circle. As Bob Lime and Jason Dolick dueled early  on for second, Martin would build up a huge lead as Danny Mumaw, Andrew Palker  and Chris Myers would have to battle through Lime and Dolick to get into second.  Myers would spin out on lap 10 and have to work his way back up through the  field as Dolick would bring out the caution on lap 14 and retire to the pits. On  the restart, Mumaw made a charge for the lead, but Martin fended that run off  and would jump back out to a half a straightaway lead and as the laps wound  down, Martin would encounter some lapped traffic and that allowed Mumaw one last  drive for the win but Martin slipped through the back markers to post his first  win. Palker, the Dzugan Fire and Rescue fast qualifier, finished third with  Myers weaving his way back up to fourth as Lee Jacobs rounded out the top five.  Palker and Myers won the Saldana Racing Products heat races.
With the World of Outlaw Late Models heading into town next week, a couple  of PA drivers popped into town this week as Davey Johnson would be the Dzugan  Fire and Rescue fast qualifier with Keith Barbara also checking in. Johnson,  Doug Drown and Charlie Duncan posted the Summit Racing Equipment heat wins but  Johnson's powerplant began smoking at the end of his heat and he would not make  the call for the feature for the Lias Tire Late Models. Wooster's Drown and  Shane McLoughlin would start on the front row of the feature and they would go  side by side for the opening three laps as Keith Berner edged past McLoughlin  for second on lap six with Ryan Markham moving past McLoughlin two laps later as  Barbara and Corey Conley wheeled and dealed for fourth. As the race wore on,  Drown and his Weekley Electric and Wooster Glass #63 would increase his lead as  Berner and Markham fought for second with Barbara and Conley flip flopping for  fourth and at the checkered flag it was Berner behind Drown with Markham,  Barbara and Conley trailing, Kyle Bates won the last chance race.
Newark's Kevin Morehouse topped the VP Racing Fuel heat race and  then went flag to flag for the NAPA Auto Parts Modified feature for his first  win of the season aboard the Sam's Used Cars and Morehouse Logging #28. Dzugan  Fire and Rescue fast qualifier, Chris Basich finished second for the third time  this season as Mike Mizer, opening night feature winner Nathan Loney and Josh  Morrow filled out the top five.
Brandon Gardner charged to the low side of the track from his third  place starting position and came out of turn two with the lead and then lumbered  through numerous cautions to pick up his second win. Driving the Rowtac, GLR,  and RDL #27g, the Miamisburg driver would drive out to a six car length lead as  Brandon Craver, Jeremy Lynch and Bob Daugherty went back and forth for second  with Todd Swim joining the action. As the checkered flew it was Gardner, Lynch,  Daugherty and Swim making a last lap pass on Craver for fourth. Larry Baldwin  was the Dzugan Fire and Rescue fast qualifier for the Thrifty Muffler Super  Stocks as Daugherty, Lynch and Shawn Cains won the Summit Racing Equipment heats  as Todd Gallion pocketed the last chance win.
The WQKT Mini Stocks stayed bunched together as Gary Hensel Sr, Doug  Hensel, Jason Shaw and Jason King all had the lead at one time or another as a  couple of times they were four wide down the front stretch. With a caution on  the next to last lap, the double file restart saw Hensel Sr. jump the start on  Shaw and finished first but was docked to places for the jump start to give the  win to Shaw and his Finishline Motors #1, his second in a row. Billy Parsons  took home second followed by Hensel Sr., King and Jeff Barker. Heat winners were  Hensel Sr and King.
Tanner McLoughlin of Zanesville won the heat and then lead all the  way in the Mini Wedge main to park the 2 Brothers Motorsports and McLoughlin  Auto Sales #59 in victory circle for the second time this season. Logan Duncan  who was the only other driver on the lead lap finished secon with Daniel Selway,  Billy Dawson and Mason Duncan checking in to the top five.
Next Friday night, May 24th will be the World of Outlaw Late Models chasing  down the $10,000 to win race with the BOSS Wingless Sprints and the Thrifty  Muffler Super Stocks in action with race time set for 7:45 pm. Check the website  at http://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/  for all the info.

MUMAW, CONLEY, HOLBROOK, GARDNER, SHAW & STAFFORD SNARE CHECKERS AT NAPA WCS
Friday, May 3, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

Warmer temps and tightly contested races had the crowd on their feet most of the night at NAPA Wayne County Speedway on Pepsi night. Wooster's Danny Mumaw drew the #1 pill to start on the pole of the Fisher Performance Sprint feature with last season's track champion, Andrew Palker right beside. At the drop of the green flag, Mumaw took the point as a lap two caution for third running Josh Davis slowed the action. On the restart, Mumaw set sail as Palker had to deal with Danny Smith for second as Dean Jacobs and Caleb Helms battled for fourth with last weeks winner, Kory Crabtree on their bumpers. Smith moved into second on lap 10 and had a straightaway gap to catch up to Mumaw's Finishline Autobody, Hitchcock Excavating and Coblentz Trucking #16. Mumaw would get slowed up by some slower cars and allowed Smith to close the gap. Jacobs powered past Palker with eight laps to go with Helms still in fifth. Chris Smith spun with two laps to go to bunch the field up but Mumaw darted away from Danny Smith to score his first win of the season as Jacobs, Palker and Helms filled out the top five. Jacobs was the Dzugan Fire & Rescue quick timer as he and Helms won the Saldana Racing Products heats.
Brad Malcuit and Wellsburg WVa's Corey Conley drew front row for the Lias Tire Late Model main with Conley taking control of the race right away. The Ballato's Towing, Wheeling Auto Body and Poske's Performance #14 would lead all the way in the caution filled race. Charlie Duncan started fourth but slipped off the back side of the backstretch to drop back to eighth as last years champ, Shane McLoughlin, Rick Bond, Ryan Markham and George Lee were changing positions every lap. Eyes were on 18th starting JR Gentry, who had to change cars for the feature and start last and in three laps had moved up ten spots and was moving up fast. Duncan had recovered from his early slip and at the ten lap mark, had moved into second and closing on Conley with Malcuit, McLoughlin and Markham in the top five with Bond and Lee close behind. Using the highside, Gentry was still picking his way through the pack and moved to third on lap 15 when the caution flew. Although everything looked good with the #240, Duncan took his ride pitside at that time and would put Gentry into second and he would pursue Conley. Gentry's run came to screeching halt on lap 23 when he went too high into turn three and slammed into the guardrail at the end of the straightaway, bringing out the red flag, ending his night but was ok. On the last restart, Markham, who had just passed Malcuit, could not make a run at Conley as Lee moved by Malcuit on the white flag lap to claim third as Bond took fifth. Lee and Duncan topped the Summit Racing Equipment heats as Lee was also the Dzugan Fire & Rescue fast qualifier.
Newark's Larry Holbrook took the lead on lap four from last week's winner, Nathan Loney and then put the One on One Fitness, RCD Sales and Xtreme Chassis #L19 into victory lane of the NAPA Auto Parts Modified main. Chris Basich moved by Loney with five laps to finish second for the scond week in a row while 8th starting Mark Gardiner used the high side to take third from Loney the next circuit with Jeff Votaw grabbing fifth. Loney picked up the Dzugan Fire & Rescue fast qualifier money as Basich won the VP Racing Fuel Heat win.
Numerous cautions filled the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature but it was action packed as Miamisburg's Brandon Gardner would fend off early challenges from last weeks winner, Kyle Moore and a late charge by Bob Daugherty. Moore would spin himself on lap 8 to go to the tail and Daugherty would get charged for hitting and spinning Gardner on a restart on the next to last lap and exited the track at that point. The Schaeffer Oil, Rowtec, and GLR #27g of Gardner kept last years track champion, Brandon Craver, at bay on the last lap for the win as Moore recovered to take third with Shawn Cains and Jeremy Lynch filling out the top five. Moore won the Dzugan Fire & Rescue quick timer money as he and Daugherty won the Summit Racing Equipment heats.
Jason Shaw and his Finishline Motors #1 held off early runs by Brad and Doug Hensel and then sped away to post the WQKT Mini Stock win. The Hensel's would run side by side most of the race with Brad taking second and Doug third. Mitch Reichard held off Lester Berry for fourth place. Brad Hensel scored the heat win.
Tanner McLoughlin looked like he was going to win his second Mini Wedge feature but spun out on the last lap that allowed Zoe Stafford to take over the lead and she would hang for her first win aboard the Coshocton based, Flint Run Valley Farms #31. Logan Duncan, Billy Dawson, Danny Selway and McLoughlin, the heat winner, filled out the top five.
Next Friday night will be a Mother's Day Special with all the divisions in action beginning at 7:45 pm. Check out the website at http://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/ for all the latest at the track.

CRABTREE, KING, LONEY, MOORE, HENSEL & McLOUGHLIN CAPTURE WILD OPENING NIGHT WINS AT NAPA WCS
Friday, April 26, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

After rain and cold shot down NAPA Wayne County Speedway's WoO Late Models and Renegade's of Dirt opener two weeks ago, everyone was chomping at the bit to see some racing action on the 3/8 mile oval. Since the transponders and scoring system went into place, no laps have been turned as fast as they were in qualifying for the Lias Tire Late Models as Russ King turned two laps in the 16 second bracket with the fastest at 16.737 on the well groomed racing surface.
The opening feature on VP Racing Fuels night would be the Fisher Performance Sprints with West Jefferson's Kory Crabtree setting on the pole and out hustling Wes McGlumphy into turn one for the lead that would last one lap as fourth starting Lee Jacobs would blast into the lead as last years track champion, Andrew Palker and Danny Mumaw and Beau Stewart had worked their way into the top five at the ten lap mark. With Jacobs expanding his lead a tight battle was shaping up with Crabtree, Palker and Mumaw as Danny Smith now in fifth at the halfway mark. Just as Jacobs started lap 17, a big cloud of smoke erupted out of his #81 as he kept up the pace but as the pack went into turn four, Palker jumped the cushion and hit the wall and flopped onto his side to bring out the red flag ending his night and Jacobs had lost all oil pressure and went pitside also. On the restart, Crabtree and his Crabtree Body Shop, Millhone Motorsports, and Mike's Trucking #60, dashed out to the lead as Danny Smith powered past Mumaw and Stewart for second but could not track down Crabtree. Fast Qualifier Chris Myers moved past Stewart with five laps to go to claim fourth.
Brad Malcuit and Charlie Duncan brought the Lias Tire Late Model field to the green flag and Charlie Duncan charged into the lead as Malcuit ran second and a dogfight between JR Gentry, last season's track champ, Shane McLoughlin, Rick Bond, Cory Conley and King was brewing for third. Gentry went highside of in turn three and spun in the cushion to bring out the caution on lap seven. As Bond, King, Malcuit and Conley wheeled and dealed with each other, Duncan opened up another big lead. Bond and King ran tightly together with some contact at the halfway mark with King taking over with a lot of track to make up on Duncan. With four to go, the lapped car of Jerry Aber and King touched with Aber spinning to slow the action. On the restart King was all over Charlie Duncan but could not slip past and on the last lap going into turn three, King and his King Brothers Ready Mix Concrete, All Star Performance and Michael Schimmley Kontracting #56 powerslid into Duncan with contact and rolled out of turn four with the lead and win. Duncan held on to second as Conley, McLoughlin, and Bond rounded out the top five.
The Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature took the green flag with Kyle Moore and Jeremy LynchStaying side by side for the opening lap but Moore got sideways in turn two on the second circuit and dropped back to sixth place as Lynch cruised to a big lead with Bob Daugherty and Frank Oriti charging for second. Moore who was fast timer had gather himself back together to get back by Brandon Craver and Oriti and took on Daugherty for second . As the laps wound down, Lynch started to fade as Daugherty closed in with Moore in pursuit of the two front runners. Daugherty took over the point with three laps to go with Mansfield's Moore with his Moore's Auto Sales, Hall's Auto Sales #2* using the highside to pass. As the two came out of turn four for the checkered flag, sparks came shooting out of Daugherty's rear housing and Moore nipped him at the line for the win. Lynch held on to third with Craver, last years track champion in fourth as Oriti claimed fifth.
Bruce Miller led the opening three laps of the NAPA Auto Parts Modified race with Chris Basich in second until he rammed a retaining tire in turn one on the second lap to send himself to the tail of the field, Danville's Nathan Loney would squeeze by Miller on lap four and never look back aboard the Rich's Body Shop and The Hangout Bar & Grill #10 for the win, Basich would work his way back through the field and take second from Miller with five to go and Eric Singhaus moved past Miller on the last lap for third with Miller finishing fourth ahead of Jim Nicely.
Team cars of Jordan James and Gary Hensel Jr. went door handle to door handle for the first lap when Hensel Jr. broke a ball joint in turn two to end his night. James would cruise away for the apparent win but was DQ'ed in post race inspection giving the win to Wooster's Brad Hensel's Bargain Shed and DJ Directional Services #28. Mike Rose, Mitch Reichard, Lester Berry and Adam Kern trailed Hensel.
Zanesville's Tanner McLoughlin and his 2 Brothers Motorsports #59 won the Mini Wedge main over Logan Duncan.
Another regular show is set for next Friday, May 3rd at NAPA WCS with first race set to go green at 7:45 pm.

Dohm wins DJ Directional Services Freedom Fighters 40; Myers, Shroyer, West and Hensel Jr. also victorious at NAPA Auto Parts WCS

Orrville, Ohio (October 13, 2012) The final race of the 2012 season is in the books as the annual DJ Directional Services Freedom Fighters 40 put the wraps on the racing season.  The gates swung open under sunny skies but clouds and the threat of rain quickly moved in.

For the DJ Directional Services Freedom Fighters 40 the field took the green flag dropped on the field a light rain started to fall. Pole sitter Doug Drown jumped out to the early lead just ahead of Zack Dohm, Russ King, Keith Barbara, Jared Hawkins, Shane McLoughlin and Tim Senic. As Drown held the point the racing though the field was intense as they raced three and four wide. On lap eight Dohm closed the gap on Drown looking for daylight to move past the leader. On lap nine Dohm got a run down the back stretch and dove under Drown to take the lead. Dohm did not waste any time and immediately began stretching his lead. A tight battle between Senic, King and Hawkins for second place ensued as they raced door handle to door handle. Senic took the position and set his sights on the leader. Ninth starting Jared Miley moved into fifth place on lap nine. Dohm began working back markers which allowed Senic to close the gap on the leader. Miley blasted past Hawkins, King and attempted to catch Senic for second place. On lap twenty seven Miley powered past Senic for second place but Dohm still held a straight away lead. On lap twenty nine the first of two cautions flew for George Lee and erased the comfortable lead Dohm had built. On the restart Dohm held the point but Miley did not give up. Miley moved up the race track and ran the high grove as Dohm was glued to the bottom. As the checker flag flew Dohm took the win just ahead of Miley, Senic, Barbara, King and Keith Berner. Dohm, Berner, Drown, Barbara and McLoughlin won heat races. Dohm set fast time.

As the Freedom Fighters 40 finished a light shower passed the track. The Fisher Performance sprints were called to the track. As a light drizzle fell sprints kept the track run in and racing resumed. During this time outside front row Danny Mumaw went pit side. Under All Star rules teams are only allowed one push off or they must go to tail. General Manger Jason Flory sent Mumaw to tail. This moved Chris Andrews to the front row outside pole sitter Chris Myers. When the green flag flew Myers powered to the point ahead of Andrews, Lee Jacobs, Eric Williams and Jimmy Pooler. Ch. Myers set a torrid pace and by lap three was closing on lapped traffic. Jacobs dove under Andrews to snag second and attempted to chase Ch. Myers. On lap eleven Mumaw had moved up to seventh place. On lap twelve Ch. Myers who was leading pulled up to turn four pit/track exit and stopped with his car on fire. He rapidly exited with his drivers’ suit on fire near his feet and lower legs. Ch. Myers dropped and rolled attempting to put out the fire as track personnel arrived to assist in putting out the fire. Their attempts failed as he continued to roll and track workers tried patting it out. Track Fire personnel arrived and extinguished the fire and Ch. Myers was alert and talking to track workers. The ruptured fuel line on Ch. Myers car resulted in the lead being handed to Jacobs. On lap fourteen a great battle between Jacobs and Andrews broke out as they exchanged slide jobs on each end of the race track. Back and forth they battled which resulted in Andrews wrestling the lead away from Jacobs. Jamie Myers after watching his brother catch fire blast past Jacobs and closed up on Andrews. Ja. Myers moved past Andrews to take the lead. Andrews had shock fall off and attempted to hold off challenging Mumaw and Williams. At the finish line it was Jamie Myers taking the win ahead of a charging Mumaw, Jacobs, Andrews and Williams. Mumaw and Chris Myers won heat races.

In the Bremenour Electric Modifieds it was Ryan West jumping to the point ahead of Dave Bodkins, Mike Mizer, Nathon Loney and Rory Reed. Bodkins dogged West from the beginning but was unable to make a pass. On lap eight the caution flag flew for debris on the track. On the restart Reed slipped past Mizer on the high side to take the third position. As the checker flag flew it was West taking the win ahead of Bodkins, Reed, Jeff Votaw and Nick Smith. Bodkins and West won heat races.

In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks Matt Shroyer powered to the lead ahead of Rob Smith, Brandon Craver, Bob Daugthery and Jason Hinton. On lap five the front runners battled for position with Shroyer holding the slight edge ahead of Smith. A caution erased the lead Shroyer held over Smith. On the restart Smith retired for the evening with mechanical issues. As Shroyer held the point Hinton and Craver raced side by side which found Hinton take the position from Craver. At the finish it was Shroyer taking home the win ahead of Hinton, Mitchell Lam, Craver and Charlie Dawson. Shroyer and Brad Eagle won heat races.

In the NAPA Auto Parts Mini Stocks Roger Rush Sr. jumped to the early lead ahead Gary Hensel Jr, Jordan James, Lester Berry and Tim Justice. Rush held off the challenges from the field but on lap five Hensel Jr. took to the high side and drove off the back stretch to power to the lead. James had mechanical issues retiring while running third. On lap eight old veteran Jerry Adkins passed Rush and Berry to take second place. At the checkered flag it was Hensel Jr scoring the easy win just ahead of Adkins, Rush and Berry. Hensel won the heat race.
