MARTIN MASTERS NAPA WCS SPRINTS; DROWN DIALS UP L.M.  VICTORY
Friday, May 17, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

Wooster's Broc Martin rolled out for the first time this season in the  Fisher Performance Sprints at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway and looked  to be in mid season form as he drew the number one pill to start on the pole of  the 25 lap feature and would lead all the way to park the Santmyer Oil, SCFN,  and Jim Smith #83 in victory circle. As Bob Lime and Jason Dolick dueled early  on for second, Martin would build up a huge lead as Danny Mumaw, Andrew Palker  and Chris Myers would have to battle through Lime and Dolick to get into second.  Myers would spin out on lap 10 and have to work his way back up through the  field as Dolick would bring out the caution on lap 14 and retire to the pits. On  the restart, Mumaw made a charge for the lead, but Martin fended that run off  and would jump back out to a half a straightaway lead and as the laps wound  down, Martin would encounter some lapped traffic and that allowed Mumaw one last  drive for the win but Martin slipped through the back markers to post his first  win. Palker, the Dzugan Fire and Rescue fast qualifier, finished third with  Myers weaving his way back up to fourth as Lee Jacobs rounded out the top five.  Palker and Myers won the Saldana Racing Products heat races.
With the World of Outlaw Late Models heading into town next week, a couple  of PA drivers popped into town this week as Davey Johnson would be the Dzugan  Fire and Rescue fast qualifier with Keith Barbara also checking in. Johnson,  Doug Drown and Charlie Duncan posted the Summit Racing Equipment heat wins but  Johnson's powerplant began smoking at the end of his heat and he would not make  the call for the feature for the Lias Tire Late Models. Wooster's Drown and  Shane McLoughlin would start on the front row of the feature and they would go  side by side for the opening three laps as Keith Berner edged past McLoughlin  for second on lap six with Ryan Markham moving past McLoughlin two laps later as  Barbara and Corey Conley wheeled and dealed for fourth. As the race wore on,  Drown and his Weekley Electric and Wooster Glass #63 would increase his lead as  Berner and Markham fought for second with Barbara and Conley flip flopping for  fourth and at the checkered flag it was Berner behind Drown with Markham,  Barbara and Conley trailing, Kyle Bates won the last chance race.
Newark's Kevin Morehouse topped the VP Racing Fuel heat race and  then went flag to flag for the NAPA Auto Parts Modified feature for his first  win of the season aboard the Sam's Used Cars and Morehouse Logging #28. Dzugan  Fire and Rescue fast qualifier, Chris Basich finished second for the third time  this season as Mike Mizer, opening night feature winner Nathan Loney and Josh  Morrow filled out the top five.
Brandon Gardner charged to the low side of the track from his third  place starting position and came out of turn two with the lead and then lumbered  through numerous cautions to pick up his second win. Driving the Rowtac, GLR,  and RDL #27g, the Miamisburg driver would drive out to a six car length lead as  Brandon Craver, Jeremy Lynch and Bob Daugherty went back and forth for second  with Todd Swim joining the action. As the checkered flew it was Gardner, Lynch,  Daugherty and Swim making a last lap pass on Craver for fourth. Larry Baldwin  was the Dzugan Fire and Rescue fast qualifier for the Thrifty Muffler Super  Stocks as Daugherty, Lynch and Shawn Cains won the Summit Racing Equipment heats  as Todd Gallion pocketed the last chance win.
The WQKT Mini Stocks stayed bunched together as Gary Hensel Sr, Doug  Hensel, Jason Shaw and Jason King all had the lead at one time or another as a  couple of times they were four wide down the front stretch. With a caution on  the next to last lap, the double file restart saw Hensel Sr. jump the start on  Shaw and finished first but was docked to places for the jump start to give the  win to Shaw and his Finishline Motors #1, his second in a row. Billy Parsons  took home second followed by Hensel Sr., King and Jeff Barker. Heat winners were  Hensel Sr and King.
Tanner McLoughlin of Zanesville won the heat and then lead all the  way in the Mini Wedge main to park the 2 Brothers Motorsports and McLoughlin  Auto Sales #59 in victory circle for the second time this season. Logan Duncan  who was the only other driver on the lead lap finished secon with Daniel Selway,  Billy Dawson and Mason Duncan checking in to the top five.
Next Friday night, May 24th will be the World of Outlaw Late Models chasing  down the $10,000 to win race with the BOSS Wingless Sprints and the Thrifty  Muffler Super Stocks in action with race time set for 7:45 pm. Check the website  at http://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/  for all the info.

MUMAW, CONLEY, HOLBROOK, GARDNER, SHAW & STAFFORD SNARE CHECKERS AT NAPA WCS
Friday, May 3, 2013
Orrville, Ohio
By Mike Swanger

Warmer temps and tightly contested races had the crowd on their feet most of the night at NAPA Wayne County Speedway on Pepsi night. Wooster's Danny Mumaw drew the #1 pill to start on the pole of the Fisher Performance Sprint feature with last season's track champion, Andrew Palker right beside. At the drop of the green flag, Mumaw took the point as a lap two caution for third running Josh Davis slowed the action. On the restart, Mumaw set sail as Palker had to deal with Danny Smith for second as Dean Jacobs and Caleb Helms battled for fourth with last weeks winner, Kory Crabtree on their bumpers. Smith moved into second on lap 10 and had a straightaway gap to catch up to Mumaw's Finishline Autobody, Hitchcock Excavating and Coblentz Trucking #16. Mumaw would get slowed up by some slower cars and allowed Smith to close the gap. Jacobs powered past Palker with eight laps to go with Helms still in fifth. Chris Smith spun with two laps to go to bunch the field up but Mumaw darted away from Danny Smith to score his first win of the season as Jacobs, Palker and Helms filled out the top five. Jacobs was the Dzugan Fire & Rescue quick timer as he and Helms won the Saldana Racing Products heats.
Brad Malcuit and Wellsburg WVa's Corey Conley drew front row for the Lias Tire Late Model main with Conley taking control of the race right away. The Ballato's Towing, Wheeling Auto Body and Poske's Performance #14 would lead all the way in the caution filled race. Charlie Duncan started fourth but slipped off the back side of the backstretch to drop back to eighth as last years champ, Shane McLoughlin, Rick Bond, Ryan Markham and George Lee were changing positions every lap. Eyes were on 18th starting JR Gentry, who had to change cars for the feature and start last and in three laps had moved up ten spots and was moving up fast. Duncan had recovered from his early slip and at the ten lap mark, had moved into second and closing on Conley with Malcuit, McLoughlin and Markham in the top five with Bond and Lee close behind. Using the highside, Gentry was still picking his way through the pack and moved to third on lap 15 when the caution flew. Although everything looked good with the #240, Duncan took his ride pitside at that time and would put Gentry into second and he would pursue Conley. Gentry's run came to screeching halt on lap 23 when he went too high into turn three and slammed into the guardrail at the end of the straightaway, bringing out the red flag, ending his night but was ok. On the last restart, Markham, who had just passed Malcuit, could not make a run at Conley as Lee moved by Malcuit on the white flag lap to claim third as Bond took fifth. Lee and Duncan topped the Summit Racing Equipment heats as Lee was also the Dzugan Fire & Rescue fast qualifier.
Newark's Larry Holbrook took the lead on lap four from last week's winner, Nathan Loney and then put the One on One Fitness, RCD Sales and Xtreme Chassis #L19 into victory lane of the NAPA Auto Parts Modified main. Chris Basich moved by Loney with five laps to finish second for the scond week in a row while 8th starting Mark Gardiner used the high side to take third from Loney the next circuit with Jeff Votaw grabbing fifth. Loney picked up the Dzugan Fire & Rescue fast qualifier money as Basich won the VP Racing Fuel Heat win.
Numerous cautions filled the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature but it was action packed as Miamisburg's Brandon Gardner would fend off early challenges from last weeks winner, Kyle Moore and a late charge by Bob Daugherty. Moore would spin himself on lap 8 to go to the tail and Daugherty would get charged for hitting and spinning Gardner on a restart on the next to last lap and exited the track at that point. The Schaeffer Oil, Rowtec, and GLR #27g of Gardner kept last years track champion, Brandon Craver, at bay on the last lap for the win as Moore recovered to take third with Shawn Cains and Jeremy Lynch filling out the top five. Moore won the Dzugan Fire & Rescue quick timer money as he and Daugherty won the Summit Racing Equipment heats.
Jason Shaw and his Finishline Motors #1 held off early runs by Brad and Doug Hensel and then sped away to post the WQKT Mini Stock win. The Hensel's would run side by side most of the race with Brad taking second and Doug third. Mitch Reichard held off Lester Berry for fourth place. Brad Hensel scored the heat win.
Tanner McLoughlin looked like he was going to win his second Mini Wedge feature but spun out on the last lap that allowed Zoe Stafford to take over the lead and she would hang for her first win aboard the Coshocton based, Flint Run Valley Farms #31. Logan Duncan, Billy Dawson, Danny Selway and McLoughlin, the heat winner, filled out the top five.
Next Friday night will be a Mother's Day Special with all the divisions in action beginning at 7:45 pm. Check out the website at http://www.waynecountyspeedway.com/ for all the latest at the track.
