MARTIN, GENTRY, MOORE (2) AND JAMES RETURN TO WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY’S VICTORY CIRCLE

Saturday, July 31, 2021By Mike Swanger The month of July ended with four drivers adding to their feature win totals at Wayne County Speedway on Santmyer Energy night. Before the field of the Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints could reach the backstretch, outside pole sitter Chris Myers got sideways in turn two that collected R J Jacobs and flipped him over as both cars were damaged enough to end their night. Pole sitter Trey Jacobs grabbed the lead on the restart but gave way to Nick Patterson on the next circuit and he led the way for the next two laps as Trey Jacobs slowed the action when he spun on lap four. Starting 7th, Orrville’s Broc Martin took the lead as the green waved again with Dean Jacobs in hot pursuit as Patterson dropped to third. Jacobs tried a couple of moves inn the middle of the race on Martin but could not get past the Orrville Trucking, Chaser’s Drive Thru and Santmyer Energy #83m as Martin pulled away as the race wore on for his fifth win of the season. Henry Malcuit, Patterson and Andrew Palker was putting on a good battle for third and in the closing laps, Palker faded from the battle as Malcuit fended off Patterson for third as Zach Ames grabbed fifth. Malcuit and Myers topped the heat races. Wooster’s J R Gentry outraced Jerry Aber into turn one at the start of the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model main and would lead all the way for his fourth win of the season aboard the El Campesino Restaurent, Holmes Pest Control and Skurts Custom Apparel #14. The closing laps got interesting though as quick timer Doug Drown was on the move from his 17th starting spot, which he had to start at because of a mishap in the heat race that put him pitside. Gentry’s straightaway lead was wiped out on lap 22 for debris on the track putting Drown on his bumper. When the green flag reappeared for the final three circuits, Gentry pulled away for the win. The race for third was a close one as Aber held off Brett Bee and Larry Bellman in the closing laps and crossed the finish line in that order as Aber and Bee recorded their best finishes of the year. A pair of #14’s, Gentry and Corey Conley captured the heat races. Starting on the pole, Mark Gardiner set the pace for the 1st six laps of the CORBON Ammunition Modified feature with D J Cline trying to find a way to get around Gardiner. Starting in the 7th slot, Mansfield’s Kyle Moore worked his way past Cline for second on lap five and overpowered Gardiner two circuits later and then drove away aboard the Kepling Floors, Moore Brothers Racing and Arnold Motorsports #11* to post his 8th Modified win at WCS this season. Cline finished second for the fourth time as last weeks winner, Colton Shaw finished third in the caution free feature. Tristan Bickford and Ron Miller filled out the top five. Moore bagged the heat win. Chase Alexander took control in the early stages of the McKenzie Concrete Super Stock feature as Took Wiles, Don Rutt and Paul Holmes dueled for second as the field was kept in tight quarters with caution flags on laps five and six. Just like in the Modified feature, Kyle Moore worked his way to the to third on lap four from his 8th starting position. Leading, Alexander tagged the guardrail in turn two to bring out the caution as he went pitside to have his car checked out. As the green waved again, Moore and the R C Kuhn & Sons, McKenzie Concrete and CORBON Ammunition #21d, swiped the lead away from Took Wiles and set sail for his 5th Super Stock checkered flag. Wiles kept Holmes at bay for second as Tyler Wiles and Don Baney rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Alexander and Moore. This was the 1st night of the Shortstop Summer Series. The early portion of the JOYRIDE Transport Mini Stock feature saw many lead changes during a lap and at one time was four wide down the backstretch for the top spot. Ryan Carder was credited with leading the opening four laps before Kyle Petit snared it for one circuit as he would give way to Doug Hensel for the next four laps. Johnny Bruce and Loudonville’s Jordan James was also in the mix for the lead. Late in the race though, Carder and Bruce’s cars would come up lame. James slipped past Hensel with three laps to go and hang on for his 7th win of the season aboard the Troutman Kutz-N-Kennels, Harris Automotive and Lochevale Farms #83. Hensel finished second with Petit claiming third and Kevin Markey and Mitch Reichard securing fourth and fifth. James and Carder notched the heat wins. The VARC cars were on hand displaying their sharp looking vintage vehicles. All the drivers were chasing the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts ‘Race to the Championship’ points and the Contingency Connection ‘Racer’s Rewards’ for the night and yearly prizes. Next Saturday, August 7th will be the Don & Hans Gross Memorial for the Super Late Models with $3,000 going to the winner. The Sprints, Modifieds, Super Stocks and the Mini Stocks will also be on the racing card. Gates will open at 3 pm and racing at 7 pmWAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY RESULTSSaturday, July 31, 2021PINE TREE TOWING & RECOVERY SPRINTSFast Qualifier Dean Jacobs 15.070 secondsHeat 1 Henry Malcuit, Andrew Palker, Dean Jacobs, Trey Jacobs, Zach Ames, Danial Burkhart, Travis Danford, Ron HamlinHeat 2 Chris Myers, Nick Patterson, Broc Martin, R J Jacobs, Jason Dolick, Jonah Aumend, Joe AdorjanFeature Broc Martin, Dean Jacobs, Henry Malcuit, Nick Patterson, Zach Ames, Andrew Palker, Danial Burkhart, Jason Dolick, Travis Danford, Joe Adorjan, Trey Jacobs, Jonah Aumend, Ron Hamlin, Chris Myers, R J JacobsMALCUIT TAVERN SUPER LATE MODELSFast Qualifier Doug Drown 16.900 secondsHeat 1 J R Gentry, Jerry Aber, Craig Hartong, Ryan Abel, Kyle Wiser, Mitch Caskey, Nick Cox, Ricky Holderbaum, Doug Drown, Jason Henderson dns, Wes Morrison dnsHeat 2 Corey Conley, Larry Bellman, Ryan Markham, Brett Bee, Thomas Baker, Brad Malcuit, Tyler Evans, Doug Baird, Jason Skelly, Tom DenzingerFeature J R Gentry, Doug Drown, Jerry Aber, Brett Bee, Larry Bellman, Brad Malcuit, Nick Cox, Mitch Caskey, Kyle Weiser, Craig Hartong, Doug Baird, Thomas Baker, Jason Skelly, Tyler Evans, Ryan Markham, Tom Denzinger, Corey Conley, Ryan Abel, Ricky Holderbaum, Wes Morrison dns, Jason Henderson dnsCORBON AMMUNITION MODIFIEDSFast Qualifier Kyle Moore 20.449 secondsHeat 1 Kyle Moore, Colton Shaw, D J Cline, Mark Gardiner, Tristan Bickford, Mark Baier, Ron Miller, Richard Grogg, Don ConleyFeature Kyle Moore, D J Cline, Colton Shaw, Tristan Bickford, Ron Miller, Mark Gardiner, Richard Grogg, Mark Baier, Don Conley dnsMCKENZIE CONCRETE SUPER STOCKS Fast Qualifier Kyle Moore 19.606 secondsHeat 1 Chase Alexander, Paul Holmes, Took Wiles, Don Baney, Braden Tucke, Brandon Craver, Tim Myers, Tim Coen, Paul McVicker, Austin BrightHeat 2 Kyle Moore, Rob Melzer, Jimmy Humphrey,, Don Rutt, Tyler Wiles, Codee Schneider, Curt Zimmerman, Kevin Ake, Paul Kern dnsFeature Kyle Moore, Took Wiles, Paul Holmes, Tyler Wiles, Don Baney, Chase Alexander, Codee Schneider, Braden Tucke, Brandon Craver, Tim Myers, Paul McVicker, Tim Coen, Don Rutt, Kevin Ake, Jimmy Humphrey, Rob Melzer, Curt Zimmerman, Austin Bright dns, Paul Kern dnsJOYRIDE TRANSPORT MINI STOCKSHeat 1 Jordan James, Doug Hensel, Jolene Voshel, Mitch Reichard, Dustin Bedlion, Mike Tincher, Clayton Evans, Jimmy Burns, David Keagy, Kyle Noel dnsHeat 2 Ryan Carder, Kyle Petit, Johnny Bruce, Kevin Markey, Stephen Crowe, Travis Hutton, Steven Lester, Matt Short, Cody MusselmanFeature Jordan James, Doug Hensel, Kyle Petit, Kevin Markey, Mitch Reichard, David Keagy, Dustin Bedlion, Jolene Voshel, Stephen Crowe, Travis Hutton, Ryan Carder, Mike Tincher, Matt Short, Jimmy Burns, Johnny Bruce, Steven Lester, Cody Musselman, Clayton Evans dns, Kyle Noel dns
